Trail Highlights: Save for a slight climb at the beginning on Miwok Trail, this is a flat route that takes you through the heart of peaceful Round Valley. Much of the trail borders a gentle, seasonal stream. You’ll wander beneath the high hills, amid tall grasses and scattered oak groves, but much of the hike is in direct sunlight with little shade. Plan accordingly, arriving in early morning during summer months or enjoying the park in spring, late fall and winter. Trail Directions: From the parking lot, walk .11 miles to the cement bridge, following signs for Miwok Trail. Cross the bridge and go through the cattle gate, staying right to follow Miwok Trail for 1.06 miles. There are smaller paths paralleling the trail that dip down to the stream – you may follow these if you choose, as they never stray far from the trail. After crossing another bridge, continue straight on Miwok Trail for another 1.51 miles, then take a right on to Murphy Meadow Trail. Follow Murphy Meadow Trail for 0.42 miles, then take a right to continue on Murphy Meadow Trail for another 1.13 miles. Slightly before the end of Murphy Meadow Trail, follow the trail through a cattle gate to your right. You will then cross a small bridge and finish the Round Valley loop by rejoining the Miwok Trail. Stay left and follow the Miwok Trail back to the parking lot.

This was a great trail for a morning hike. I’d recommend starting early, because once you get to the meadow portion, there is NO shade. Lots of cows on and around the trail, so there were points we had to go off trail to avoid potentially getting charged by the mamas. Cute babies, though!

Got to the TH at 0730 so I could get finished before the hoards of people. I wanted to tryout Miwok because I want to chain Round Valley, Los Vaqueros, and Morgan Territory together for a backpacking trip. Miwok in Los Vaqueros is CLOSED to all trail users. So I turned my exploratory hike into this loop. A relatively flat loop with some muddy spots where the cattle have created a mess of the trail. Most of the trail appears to be a fire road or at least 8 feet wide. There are some single track trails that follow alongside the first 1.6 miles. MTB’s are allowed on the fire road (or trail that is at least 8 ft wide), but are prohibited on the single track. This is a cattle grazing area and the mothers will protect their young so be cautious of getting between a cow and her calf. I also checked out the group camp area, which is very nice. The restrooms at the trail head are closed during the SiP so please PLEASE remember “Leave No Trace” and be respectful of the land.

Do it early in the morning to avoid the crowds, miwok was a little muddy for about 40 yards but after it cleared and it was nice. Easy to moderate trail.

Perfect day for a hike and sunny and gorgeous! Little bit was rugged, but it’s from the rain. We started at 10 AM and next time we will start at 9 AM because it gets hot the higher you go quickly!

Lots of cows blocking the trail. They made a mess of the trail while it was muddy. Lots of rough trail to navigate.

Beautiful hike through Green Meadows. Would recommend this for a wonderful family stroll. Beautiful views surrounding a lush Valley. Lots of cows to entertain you

Hardy Canyon trail was the highlight of the hike. Great views. It was borderline hot in early February! Take plenty of water.

Good climb to start and then downhill and flat the rest of the way. Beautiful valleys filled with cows.

Could not complete trail due to mud.

This would be best to do in the fall or spring when there is no rain. There was lots of mud and extreme treacherous trails.

Nice challenging walk/hike!

Snakes, and heavy bugs. Pretty dry.

This is a fantastic trail in which you walk through open grasslands and oak woods and you are always surrounded by the forest covered hills. You can also access the park's group camping area on this trail as well as the out and back Fox Tail Trail. The majority of the elevation is right at the start and then (because it is a loop) right at the end. Plenty of Brush Rabbits and other wildlife to spot. Also some turn of the century farming equipment here and there since this was once a working ranch/farm.
