Went on a wet, foggy day, but feel satisfied at the end. Closer to 12 miles following this route, according to my GPS. Using the Muir Beach Overlook as a trailhead requires walking along the side of Highway 1 to get to the start.

I began from Rodeo Beach, so im not sure how parking is, but the views are incredible and the stairs are something that I havent seen anywhere else around here. Steep Ravine makes you feel like you are walking through a lush rainforest, especially if you make it after/during a huge storm. You follow a creek all the way up/down, so its way better when its flowing

About a 1 hour 15 min drive away. Parking is pretty easy coz it seems like this isn’t a popular trailhead. The first 0.5mile or so requires walking on highway 1 towards the actual trailhead. The next 2 miles or so (coast trail) is pretty narrow and is U shaped with an extremely uneven terrain. Seems better suited for bikers, who are speeding along all the time, keeping us on the lookout constantly. Once we actually get to the Dipsea loop portion, it’s absolutely beautiful. There’s a river at the bottom and the 4mile loop is by far the hardest portion of the entire hike. Overall the 4 mile coast trial is hard on our ankles and balance and makes it not so fun. It seemed like a lot of ppl chose a different trailhead and did Dipsea all the way to Stinson beach, which might be a good alternative instead. But the hike itself was a very good workout and left us pretty tired and sore.

Awesome views. No traffic on first section whilst Highway 1 is being repaired. Easy elevation change stretched over the distance, except for the bottom of Dipsea. Nice mix of Fern Gully vibes and exposed coastal hills. Lots of water stops on the way round- really nice way to experience this spot on Mount Tam
