Be advised this is not a “trail”. It is off trail route and should only be attempted by experienced hikers who have a topo map (Indian cove quad) and compass. Do not rely on your phone or GPS alone. If you do not have experience off trail you should be very cautious. Not recommended in summer or hot weather. Bring your 10 essentials and extra water.

This is not a trail. This is bad for environment when people go any directions to find their way through. Joshua tree has many assigned trails. I am very surprised that this was posted as a trail in a first place.

got halfway up the mountain and couldn't make it over a particularly big boulder. We recommend bringing climbing shoes if you want to complete this trail.

Definitely a very challenging trail. Lots of boulder hopping, really fun scrambling, and slugging through sandy washes. Trail finding is also challenging, I got off track twice (my phone died), and did lots of back tracking and scouting to find the best/correct routes. There's some cool slot canyons along the way. I ultimately summited mt bob and finished the loop in just under 2 hours, alone, in approach shoes, with 700 mL water, jogging whenever possible. The temperature was around 80 but there was very little shade. Definitely gets hot up there. Beautiful hike with ridiculous views from the summit. A solid adventure.

I would rank this on the hard side because it's a slippery and steep scramble on the way up and mostly bouldering on the way down. wear long pants because of all the vegetation and bouldering. you must have the AllTrails GPS map! no trail markers are available. I had a tough time at the end getting down and must have gotten off path a dozen time. let me add that for the duration of the hike, not including the campground, I saw no one else on the trail. don't go alone because if you get hurt, you're screwed. great hike overall.

A lot harder than I thought. It’s basically a scramble not a hike so come prepared to climb most of it. We started too late and didn’t summit. Lots of fun challenging boulders.
