Over 400 movies have been filmed here! “Movie Road Self-Guided Tour” pamphlet can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce and Film History Museum in Lone Pine or as PDF online. A tough and gnarly road for a low clearance passenger vehicle, but doable with care to avoid rocks and potholes. Any car with clearance or 4wd will be fine.

Taken this road many times on both a dirt bike and truck. Beautiful scenery. The road is wide and really is easy enough for a passenger car to take. Maybe a bit bumpy but doable as I have seen passenger vehicles including RVs on this road.

The vista dominating the landscape of Movie Road Trail is all-encompassing and mesmerizing. It is intoxicating and demands a closer look. In fact, it might lure you out of your car, force you to head in the wrong direction, and into a slight panic of where the actual trail is. After you get your sense of direction figured out, the trail opens to a road meant for RV’s and ATV’s. Walking along the road, you’re invited to explore trails meandering through rock formations and even grander views. After exploring, you’re led back to the road and keep pressing forward. After hours of walking, you arrive at an intersection. I took this opportunity to rest, eat some food, drink some water, and play war with flies. This minor annoyance didn’t matter. I found myself staring at a mountain range beyond compare.

As long as conditions are good this can be easily done with just about any pickup or suv. great views, mule ranch at the end.

Fun and interesting walk with lots of spurs to investigate! Some areas of the road can be difficult or impassable with low clearance vehicles. Take care when walking as the passing cars can kick up a fair amount of dust and some drivers take the road a little fast. For these reason I would not recommend for small children.

A fun and very easy trail with great views. Best rock formations are on the southern side but we prefer the northern end as it's quieter and the vista more rewarding.

A tough and gnarly road for a low clearance passenger vehicle, but doable with care to avoid rocks and potholes. Anything else should be fine. The views themselves are 5 stars, but the area loses a star because it's not uncommon to find people have misused popular campsites and such. Over all worth visiting when you're in the area.
