Explore the remnants of a bygone era on the slopes of Mt Tamalpais. This 9 mile loop takes in many of the park's best features, from sweeping grassland and redwood groves, to the remains of the old Mt Tamalpais Scenic Railway and the buildings and features that still remain. There's a way up Mt. Tamalpais for everyone whether you're a biker, hiker, driver or equestrian. Opt for the easy drive-up option and you'll be taking the third of a mile plank-walk to the rocky summit and some of the best views in the bay area, but you'd be missing out on the opportunity to experience some really great Marin hiking trails.

Excellent hike. Park at Pantol then do the 9 mile loop clockwise. Great open vistas with panoramic views plus deep forest sections plus must see places: Mountain Theater, West Point Inn and East Peak. Very steep 1/2 mile section just before the East Peak parking lot will provide a workout. This hike really showcases the mountain. Personal favorite. Hiking time: 4.5 hrs.

A very cool trail. Climbed above the clouds that covered San Francisco city and got a 360 degree birds view from 2700ft tall. The best part is the east peak. The views are spectacular with lush trees spreading on mountain ranges with beautiful clouds veils. Saw some animals such as deer and geckos. lots of shades along the trail. could also see spotted mini waterfalls. Creeks r playing melodic songs along the way. Definitely will be back!Enjoyed it a lot!
