This trail is amazing! I added a few miles by taking switch backs in some places over larger path sections, good choice they add a lot of beautify, maybe added 3 miles. Used GLONASS and GPS and didn’t get near 30 miles. It’s solid 22 total. Incredible views, some exposure but not bad. Def refill water at the top, gets a lot warmer as you head down from 5k ft. of course. Will be doing it again soon. Truly an incredible run
The entire loop is definitely not 20.5 miles.... it's closer to 30-35 miles. We thought that the hole thing was 20 so we did not bring enough water.... once it splits off and starts the loop part is where we believe it's about 20 miles, but we did about 5 ish before that happened... needless to say we didn't make it the whole way but if you prepare for a 30-40 mile hike with water you should be able to make it!!!! Stay safe. there is some shade but not a ton.
One of the hardest hikes I've done. Look for idlehour trail to make it back to the fire station.
