Doesn't get much better for trail running in the city
Five stars for location. Stairs off a normal looking SF street transport you to a mountain forest.
Rustic trail. There are parts with fallen trees and some steep ridges.
It was also hard to find the loop described in the map. Following fairy gates trail led to a street and I couldn't find a way back to it. From there did an abrupt exit on a steep trail which took me south of stanyan.
All in all fun trail. I will be going back many times.
A wonderful forest in the city, and a great contrast of the urban lifestyle of San Francisco. If you enjoy woodsy nature, this will be your place for a great time! There are some steep points. Do not come after rain as it will be quite dangerous. There should be better signage so you do not need to rely on phone GPS to not get lost; reception is also quite shoddy. Parking is difficult at the beginning of the trail.
Great! We did this with our three kids who are all 7 and under and we had a blast. Perfect length and a lot of scenery for the kids. We had no idea this trail was here! Nice surprise.
Pleasant views, plenty of picture-perfect spots, bicycle friendly! Go about an hour before the sunset, reach the topmost point, sit and watch the sunset!
Nice trail. Super convenient location. Only negative is The trail is not well marked when you hit Johnstone rd which led to some wandering around the ucsf housing and then fighting some tight ungroomed trails until we found our way to the marker. That was the only negative. Otherwise nice hike.
