This was a hell of a hike! We're intermediate hikers in decent but not excellent shape, and this hike kicked our butts. It's very steep, both uphill and downhill, but the views are tremendous. Plus this includes the waterfall stretch! Plenty of flowing water still, and tons of wildflowers. Bring lots of water--a lot of really sunny stretches. We saw two rattlesnakes, so do take some care on that front. And there's loads of poison oak.

Did the trail from Donner canyon. Love the views, the workout level was awesome! FYI shoes with track are a must if you don’t want leave a piece of your skin on the gravel, the last part of the hike to the summit it’s very steep and has a lot of gravel, typical of volcanic peaks. Also I don’t recommend this peak in the summer season it’s bare and it’s a lot of up hill.

Good hike. Getting down was challenging with gravel

Great hike! The only problematic element is the loose, gravelly steep sections. Good thing I had fingerless gloves on, because I fell several times and would have scraped my hands. If you have the time and patience to not rush the steep sections, this hike is a winner.

Did this trail plus a detour up Mt. Diablo (total 18km, 1300m elevation, 6.5hrs). Slippery loose gravel!

Make sure to bring lots and lots of water and wear cleated shoes/boots. The downhill is mostly loose gravel and very steep. Lots of elevation changes, really good workout.

Just did this trail this morning, it’s tough! Definitely recommend wearing cleated type shoes or boots, jeans some parts of the trail or covered with bush. Bring plenty of water and prepare for an uphill battle. Once you get to the top it’s definitely worth the views, peace and serenity.

We started at the Marsh Creek Road Parking Lot, hiked up to the Three Spring Road. We turned left to the East Trail, then took the Mt. Olympia Road and the North Peak Road hiked up the the North Peak. After taking a lunch break we hiked down from North Peak Road, continued to the Prospector's Gap Road, turned right onto the Middle Trail, continued to the Falls Trail, Olympia Trail and the Three Spring Road to complete the loop. Total distance was 10.6 miles, elevation gain 3,600 ft. We got a good work out and the views were gorgeous. The weather was perfect at this time of year. We started a 9:30 and completed at 3:30.
