Explore this wooded area in the heart of a concrete jungle. One of the tallest points in San Francisco, this hike offers scenic views. There is great birding habitat, so keep your eyes and ears open.

Real nice views short trails but good for beginners. A lot of hikers. Has a real nice steep hill to ride down right below the cross. Can easily ride back up different path then go back down the steep hill.

Hiked up here today (started in Stern Grove and did a big 5.5 mile loop, including a stretch through the mansions in St. Johns Wood neighborhood). Amazingly clear day, almost no wind at all. Saw a 2' long garter snake on the top of Mt. Davidson! Panoramic views taking in Sutro Tower/Twin Peaks to the north, downtown SF to the northeast, south of Mission, south SF, over to Brisbane... As well as clear views of the East Bay, including Mt. Diablo way off in the distance. In the western direction we could see some of the Farallon Islands as well. My wife prefers this location over Twin Peaks because there are no cars and no crowds -- it's a lot more peaceful!

We did this hike last year and loved it. It went a lot faster than I expected. The cross at the top was fun to see in person (and not just in Dirty Harry). A great SF stroll.

There’s a cool cross at the top in remembrance of he Armenian genocide and some nice views of the City (but not the Golden Gate Bridge), Twin Peaks Tower, all of East Bay, part of the Pacific and down to the south end of the Bay. It was an easy hike over soil and scattered rocks if you take the trail, but you can take a wide variety of offshoot trails to the top, some steeper but doable. It can take anywhere from 10 min to and from the top at a brisk pace to 40 min at a stroll, but what really makes this hike awesome are the views of the skyline and the lush forest you walk through on the longer loop. It’s dog friendly!

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. Even after all these years I still love this little spot. Now I come with my son and he enjoys it as much as I do.

Pretty simple hike. Great scenic view. Nice place to have a romantic date or a picnic. You can see San Francisco downtown from the top

If you're planning on a scenic hike, try some other park. Yes it has amazing views since it's the tallest peak in San Francisco, but it feels so far from the rest of the city. Very woodsy, so you need to be careful when hiking. Also, you need to either have a car or time the bus schedule right, because it's a very residential neighborhood, like being in the suburbs.

Not really a hike... short climb uphill.... cross is cool at the top.

As this is the highest point in San Francisco, it is a good (and slightly less crowded) alternative to Twin Peaks. The way up is steep, but short. If you enjoy hiking in the woods, you will enjoy this trail! I personally feel the trail is much too woodsy for me to hike often; I am often avoiding branches, leaves, and mud! Make sure not to come after it rains, as the trail would be quite dangerous. Parking in the neighboring residential area is also quite difficult and discouraging.

Beautiful views of the Bay Area

Quite steep but short. The fog and cross made it a holy mystery place. A good up view of the city

Great views of the city. Easy parking. Giant concrete cross 150 to 200 feet tall maybe? This is in my neighborhood and I like to visit regularly.

We started from the stairs on Juanita Way. The trail switchbacks up the north / east side of the hill, and eventually joins the access road about 100 ft below the summit. It'sa nice shaded walk through a fairly thick "urban forest". Once on top you have the Mt Davidson Cross and a bit to the south a nice open patch with a South / East exposure providing great views of the city with some wildflowers and butterflies. Usage by hikers is moderate, and usage by mountain bikers is almost non-existent (despite what it says here. You wanna see bikes? go to Crissy Field or GG Park on a Sunday). All in all a nice Urban escape.
