Once on top, to the east you can see the eastern mountains, rolling hills, and the Salt Creek Golf Course; to the west and south you can see all of Bonita, Sweetwater Reservoir, and Chula Vista all the way to the bay and the sea. Enjoy views all the way to Mexico, Coronado, and Downtown San Diego. No shade, rapid elevation change, very steep in some areas. Loose rocks! Be careful on your way down.

Its nice for the views. Easy hike for those in South Bay who don't want to drive far.

it's the best place for family hiking

Used to be a great hike for those looking for a more strenuous steep ascent. The mountain bikers have taken over... It is now illegal to walk straight up the mountain. The mountain is now scored with mandatory switchbacks that were made to benefit mountain bikers.

Last good hike in Chula Vista is now gone. First Mt Miguel, then Horseshoe Ridge, now Mother Miguel. Anybody in South Bay looking for a good hike will now need to burn a bunch of gas to drive north

This is short hike but a lot harder than it looks. It is exposed and steep going to the peak. Get a good pair of hiking shoes with a lot of grip.

Loved this. Fun, challenging trail with nice views along and from the top. Slid a few times, watch the loose rock!

This is a great hike close by in San Diego. It’s pretty steep and rocky so definitely wear hiking shoes or shoes with very good grips. I’d also recommend going on a cool day or very early as there is no shade at all. It’s easy to get confused where the right trail starts so be sure to go in towards the left where the power towers are.

Did a New Years 2019 hike. Primitive trail, which is a plus in my book. No enhancements (no steps or fences). Remnants of a switchback on the lower half, now eroded and gully-washed. Traffic now ignores the switchbacks. A fairly strenuous hike up. Tricky footing coming down. Awesome views into Mexico, ocean, downtown, and El Capitan. Nice alternative to Cowels as it’s less crowded. Will do again.

Decent enough trail, be sure to go on a cloudy of chilly day, as there's literally no shade. Pretty steep in parts.Trail itself doesn't have too much to look at, but views are good.

Steep but moderate. Not too difficult if you’re somewhat experienced.

Nice hike with a good elevation gain. Go on a nice cool day as there is really no shade at all. Lots of plant life, crows, a few cottontail rabbits, etc. The switchbacks, once completed, will make this hike a much nicer one!

This one was tough! But so good!!! Ive hiked maybe 20 times prior to this one but I am definitely a rookie when it comes to hikes. This one is very similar to Cowles in difficulty and workout. There are 2 ways to the top: 1. Straight up (shorter, steeper, more challenging) or 2. Switchbacks then you merge with the a real trail. We took the switchbacks on the way up and took the straight down steep route on the way down. I found myself naturally running down the hill but it can be dangerous because of the lose dirt so you gotta be careful.

My 9-year old and I did this together, not without a bit of whining on his part due to the steepness. It isn't a long hike, 52 minutes up and 45 minutes down for some average joes like us who don't get out much. We did it on the first day of summer break last year, so like other people said in their reviews, bring lots of water because there isn't any shade. Also like others explained, it's loose rock on the way down. Watch your step. The top has great views and a POW flag flying high. Rumor has it that it is currently closed due to people leaving trash behind but I haven't been out to double check the info.

this Trail was nice for an early morning. it would definitely be hot later in the day there's no shade period after you make it to the top where the American flag is, if you keep on going for another mile or so you hit a beautiful River with lots of trees. the rattlesnakes are out watch your step.

**** NOTE ******
This map / trail takes you past the rock house to the other side of the mountain, and literally drops you off underneath some huge power lines. Not sure it is worth continuing after the rock house.

Overall this was a great hike that really got the blood pumping and ended with an awesome view. Overall the trail is in pretty good condition. I recommend getting some hiking boots to ensure you are getting the best grip possible when going up/down the steepest parts.

Parking is easy since this hike starts at a residential neighborhood.

For the most part this hike just goes up and not too many flat areas that will allow for you to relax. I frequently hike and was able to do this no problem, even followed a lady carrying her 3 yr old up it! Although I will admit, it looked extremely challenging.

Just make sure to take your time and go during a cool parts of the day as there is no shade. Make sure to bring plenty of water and enjoy the views form the top!

Today, I hiked it. It was a good early east county hike for the pre beginning of summer hike. On the way up, it was steep, took some of the switchbacks on the steepest section. Great views on a clear day. Be careful on the way down, it gets slippery with lots of loose rocks.
