Moore Creek Trail is a 7.1 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near St. Helena, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
The hike along Moore Creek is a journey into the deep recesses of a secluded canyon. The trail first climbs high on the canyon wall and enjoys sweeping vistas before descending to the creek. The upstream portion of the hike has many creek crossings. If the water level is high, it is best to avoid this part of the trail. The loop section can still be hiked during periods of high water.
Hiked up and past pools early morning for a pleasant hike through the forest. On way back had the secret swimming hole to myself for lunch then came back on the high road to enjoy the fields of wildflowers, making for a nice ending to a 10 mile hike. Trail well maintained. Not crowded in morning.
Spring has sprung out here around this time of the year. Beautiful hike!
Live the diversity of terrain from creek side to wild flowers on the hillside. Beautiful hike.
Moore Creek trail to Creek Pools (out and back) to Dry Foot Trail, to Valentine Vista trail. 8.7 miles. Fun creek crossings (5 total). Beautiful wildflowers right now. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen to reapply. Dog and Bike friendly.
The wild flowers at the beginning of the trail are stunning! I would recommend going in the morning as the sun was pretty hot and not much shade when you start out. The further you go the more shade there is though, when you are closer to the water. Very much enjoyed this hike.
Great combo of creek and wildflowers. Not difficult, perfect for a dog
My favorite since coming to CA. Perfect balance of challenging and enjoyable. Not too crowded at all. Just enough people to say hello to wo crowding the trail. I hiked wo anyone in sight for the vast majority of the trail. There are 4 or 5 river crossings that are all very doable. Two (I think) have wooden beams across them to help you cross but I found it easier to hop across the rocks. Very well marked trail-even I didn’t get lost which is saying a lot! Still trying to figure out All trails maps. There is absolutely NO cell signal whatsoever, anywhere near by. I download the trail to help me find my way but if I pause the recording I’m not able to find the map again when I’m ready... frustrating. Be prepared for the drive to and from. I have driven literally across the country and through mountain chains and over mountain passes in snow storms and the was harder driving. Very narrow roads winding around changing directions wo being able to see around the curve and no guard rails even along the outside with nothing but cliff drops. Don’t take your eyes off the road even for a second. But don’t let this deter you. It’s still a beautiful drive and a bit sad as you drive through what used to be forest before the wildfires. I would not want to do this drive after the sun sets.
Perfect afternoon hike. Gorgeous, green, and lots of wildflowers at the end of February!
Great hike with lots of shade. Perfect for a hike that gives you up and down elevations and a good work out. Not very many people at all nice and quiet worth the hike in terms of miles and lots of options for adding extra miles to this hike as well we ended up doing over 10 miles. I definitely recommend this hike for intermediate.
Loved this hike! I first went up the “main” trail, with the start at the far end of the parking lot near the trail map sign. Then I took the right split to Valentine’s Vista Trail which loops back down to the parking lot. Such a fun trail, very narrow - was nice to see mountain bikers using their bells to warn their approach. I turned around before the parking lot and did the trail again heading back to where I split off and took the Moore creek trail path to where it splits again at the creek. I tried the Madrone trail which has a sign saying it’s under construction. Followed that for a bit and then headed back. Hot tip for mask wearing - you can just tie a bandana around your neck and pull it up over your nose and mouth easily when passing someone.
Fun trail, not many ppl seen on trial while hiked. As i return to parking, vehicles were waiting for parking. Did see wild pigs.
Nice hike, quiet on a Sunday and fairly shaded once you’re in the valley. Water level wasn’t too high so stream crossing was easy with a dog. Took the trail up to Canyon Road and back and got some good elevation in.
