Made a great loop from Airplane Monument back to Green Valley Falls by hiking UP the southern part of the West Mesa Trail to Arroyo Seco (there’s a short cut back down Fox Trail, not shown on your Topo map) and the Arroyo Seco Fire Road takes you back to the campground. We parked at the Sweetwater parking lot to start up monument trail and we went across Green Valley campground at the end to explore the falls a bit before returning to the car. This created a loop just under 9.5 miles.

Turned into a long, hot loop. From Green Valley ($10) to Monument to West Mesa to Fox Trail to Arroyo Seco to Pine Ridge to Green Valley (6.5 mi). Pine Ridge trail looks easy on the map -- not so in practice. Stay on Fire Road for an easier descent. Airplane Monument was a nice picture stop. Trail a bit overgrown. Long pants to protect the legs would be nice if not for the July heat.

We took west side to monument (to avoid paying the campground fee this weekend) to west mesa to japacha. Pretty easy. Kinda narrow going up. Wider and pretty coming down. My kids liked it

Hiked this Labor Day 2016 with a group of friends. Cool hike with amazing views of Cuyamaca Peak and Stonewall Peak along with other scenic views. We hiked the loop via West Mesa trail and racked up 5.38 miles! Airplane Monument atop was worth the hike to honor the fallen U.S. servicemen

Did it as part of a bigger loop to bag Cuyamaca peak and Japacha Peak. Pretty straightforward and well marked.

Hiked here from the West Side trail to avoid paying the $8 campground entry fee. Parts are narrow and rocky so good shoes are essential. There are some nice views but most of the time you're just surrounded by bushes.
