Sawpit Canyon to Monument Peak is just under a 4 mile round trip with 700' elevation gain. This is a short trip that follows the old route of the Mojave Trail and at Monument Peak you will see the monument to the Mojave Indian Trail and Father Garces. From highway 18, take the Crestline cutoff and when you hit Crest Forest drive make a left. Drive 4 miles to Cedarpines Park and make a left onto Sawpit Canyon rd. Follow this road until you get to forest rd 2N43 and park off the road so you are not blocking any roads or driveways. Walk 2 miles until you reach forest rd 2N49. Walk 100 feet west then a 50 yard scramble up to the monument.

Great little hike. This hike was in one of my hiking books but has been removed in newer editions. Trail is still in great shape and a great jump off point for other hikes on forest road 2N49.
