I’ve done the hike before and it has areas where you’re able to go off trail to a beach, but just be careful

Afternoon hike on this trail during a wind event. Quite brisk but awesome to see power of the ocean sending sea foam up and over the cliffs. Very few other people out there so it was different.

Windy but great views of the waves crashing in to the cliffs. Pretty flat.

One of our favorite trails, especially with a little one. It's maintained really well which is amazing with the amount of traffic this trail gets, and never crowded due to the extra wide path offered and little off trails. The trail is stroller friendly, amazing views, picnic tables, beach access, and wild life and sea life to see. Our son is almost 3 and likes to walk lately without his stroller even though he gets tired pretty quick, so we usually cut this trail in half and start at the other entrance on the next day, both entrances offer amazing views but I would say the first entrance you come upon probably offers more to see as the last entrance (where the road ends and becomes a parking lot) has you hike a bit further before reaching the cliffs. Both entrances offer restrooms, though the last entrance probably offers more parking since most people use the first entrance where cars usually have to park alongside the road.

The Bluff Trail is an easy hike and the views are spectacular of the Central Coast and Pacific Ocean. This hike of the Bluff Trail is well worth doing, best in the spring when everything is blooming and it is not too hot, it was foggy on this particular day. This trail has both ticks and Poison oak as hazards if you get too close to the sides or go off trail. Rattlesnakes are very common here.
I actually was on three different trails, I started on the Bluff trail at the southern end, then switched to the Badger Trail to go inland for awhile. Then, I switched to the Rattlesnake Flats trail to head towards my car.
Virtual Treadmill video of this hike can be seen on my YouTube Channel, copy and paste link below to watch it. Thanks.

Montaña de Oro is one of my favorite places in SLO County (and thus far on the planet). The Bluff trail is one of many in the vicinity. It has a parking lot on both ends. It is wide, well-used and gorgeous. There is a network of smaller trails that allow you to come closer to the cliffs. When the tide is out, there is a wooden staircase that takes you down to a small beach a little ways down the trail. I recommended going to nearby Spooner’s Cove and to the Spooner’s old ranch home. It is now a museum. It has a small store, some photos of when the land was still used as a ranch and is a recreation of what it may have looked like when the family still lived there.

Excellent family walk. Lots of great ocean views. Play at the beach afterwards. Pic nic .
This seems to get busy on the weekends. Come early. Good parking and bathrooms.

This trail has a gravel base path which is even good for strollers. But foot paths branch off all the way along the coast providing fantastic close up views. Access down to tide pools and inlets provide even better access.
This hike is more about sightseeing than real hiking. it is like one big Big Sur "turn out". Beautiful.

Always beautiful, a well-maintained walking trail on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Beautiful views, options to turn off to different loop patterns, surf access at a few points. Don’t miss this one!
