Can't believe more people don't know about this hike. We did it Labor Day weekend and it was beautiful. It is mostly level, although keep in mind that the lake part is over 10,000 feet, so that's the only part that makes it a bit challenging. Other than the altitude, the views will take your breath away. Great "starter" hike for the long weekend. It is mostly in the shade, and through lovely alpine meadows. You have the option at the end of the trail of going past the lake, and heading up the waterfall (with no trail) to Helen Lake, which we only half did. Another great thing about this trail is that there is practically nobody on it!
