Haven't been here since before the station fire and, wow, is this place different.... The trail starts off steeply off the side of tujunga canyon. After going down some dirt, ropes have been secured to help you go down the steep slippery granite that leads you the rest of the way down to the creek. Water was of a beautiful clear gold color when I went. walked down the stream, where a decent down a deep rock starts taking you thru the granite.... I remember there used to be a decent stream around this area, and a big pool where you could jump before the fire.... not anymore. silt and sand have covered all of the pools that existed before the fire. went to the very end, before the narrows, where the metal ladder was. used to be an awesome gainer, remember I used to jump from across the metal ladder. I went down the metal ladder (sketch, wouldn't try it if you value ur life) and saw that the swimming hole is gone, replaced by a shallow pool of water that was retained by sand bags. water was nasty, fillled with dead bugs and leeches. went to the narrows, and that made me feel better. lots of trash everywhere. very sad to see that people are still very disrespectful to our beautiful forest. filled and took out 2 bags of trash. all in all, it was very nice to reminice, but word of advice is if u haven't been here since before the fire and want to see if the swimming holes are still here, they're not. not really a place I'd come back too.....

Not an easy hike unless you are experienced with hiking steep trails and have good balance. Beware if you are afraid of hights. I pick up other people's trash on the way almost everytime. Please do not leave trash in this amazing place.

its definitely a great workout. be ready to go down/up a very steep hill. gloves can help and good hiking shoes/ hd sandals since you are going into 4ft of water at the very beginning. I went there 20yrs ago and jumped from both ledges. Things have changed, its shallow now, 4ft deep. DO NOT JUMP! YOU'LL HIT THE BOTTOM. regardless it's still a great trail to freshen up during the summer

Definitely NOT an easy hike. I feel like an easy hike is something you can take your grandma on or is kid friendly. This hike is neither. it I evolves going down assisted by ropes that are already there. Parts of it are very steep and slippery. Also the water is so cold. But on a hot day it is definitely worth it. if you follow the flow of the water it will bring you to a couple of sitting areas in the canyon that are beautiful and peaceful. make sure you bring shoes with good grip and ones that are good in the water cause you will be getting wet! Also some places are super slippery and unfortunately some people have left broken bottles so we did encounter some glass in the wading parts. The hike ends to a part where there is a ladder down a 30 ft drop that we did not venture down (looked very shady). Even though we didn't go down the ladder to the main swimming area we still were able to lay out and relax. it was a great time if you're willing to take the risk.

Not a lengthy trail but strenuous for the less experienced. The descent is steep and ropes are necessary. Definitely a climb on the way back. There were parts where the water was waist deep before getting to the ladder/water fall/ water slide. Pack water shoes/outdoor sandals if you don't want to get your hiking boots wet. The ladder is not bolted to the rock and it moves slightly. I am 5 feet tall and had to stretch my legs and arms to reach the next rail on the ladder. Bring extra clothes for the ride home. Hike safe! "kill nothing but time, leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures, keep nothing but memories, belive in nothing but yourself."

Not an easy trail! Great for an all day adventure but not if you are limited on time. Amazing scenery and nature, definitely overgrown and very rocky. I’ve been here a lot of times, definitely requires skill and it’s intense ! Not kid friendly not pet friendly it’s a workout and requires effort. A hike to always be careful of every step you take!

This climb is so much fun! If you like adventure and climbing down rocks and small waterfalls this is for you! Climbing up and down the ropes is fun yet slippery and steep of you aren't prepared. Nice trail that isn't the easiest if you're just looking for an easy trail walk. Beautiful river and fun places to explore :)

This trail is far from easy. Be warned. It is a steep climb down multiple ropes and there isn't much to see at the bottom. Not worth the effort.

The trailhead is not clearly marked, it is a dirt trail off the highway. Lots of loose gravel making it possibly dangerous to climb down into the valley. There are 2 spots where you need to use ropes that people attached to trees to climb down. There are slippery rocks and portions where you have to walk through the creek. Monkey canyon falls is a small rock waterfall that spills into a small bank. The ladder is very rickety and may be unsafe. Be careful on this trail and be prepared for a difficult hike.

This was a fun one. If you do decide tondo this hike, be prepared to get your feet wet and hands dirty. Please do use the ropes to be safe and wear hiking shoes. I went in running shoes and while they worked fine for me (I'm an avid hiker) it may be dangerous for some as it can be slippery. I suggest checking out the post on @lahikes on Instagram about this hike. They do provide much needed direction for your first time. If you choose without it, it may be a bit difficult as you can get lost BUT as long as you follow the stream you can make it to the canyon. "The Narrows" is very beautiful, and just a couple min after going down the monkey canyon. One thing I would say is, people who do make it there trash the area which makes it ugly but a great area to relax since there usually isn't anyone there!
