Getting There

Starting at the ridge line of the Modelo Spur and continuing north along the ridge, this pathway offers views of both canyons. It ends at the Palo Comado Canyon Trail where you can turn right, and travel east to Cheeseboro Canyon, or left, and travel west to Palo Comado Canyon.

California Travel and Tourism Commision, P.O. Box 1499 , Sacramento, CA, 95812-1499, Phone: 800-862-2543

Any hikers will take water to rehydrate especially if hiking in the middle part of the day so take plenty. The two main things to watch out for are; speedy mountain bikers on the first part of the trail and horses and their apples!

Directions from Agoura Hills, CA: Travel US 101 / Ventura Freeway to Cheesebro Road, which carries you to the entrance to the Canyons. Proceed to parking lot. Hike Modelo Spur to reach Modelo Trail. This is a little hard to find because of turns....Simply stay on Cheseboro Road. It is at the very end of the road.

I think I went the hard way. Views from the ridge line were great. Some spots were overgrown. A lot of horse crap but that’s what you get when you share a trail with horses. I wouldn’t do this on a hot day.

A nice easy trail. However there is a lot of foxtail, so be very careful bringing a dog along.

Beautiful trail on a January (1/13/2020), Monday morning. The sides of the trail look overgrown but the trail itself was maintained. I didn’t need to fight through weeds. Great morning workout, so peaceful.

Great short hike and kid friendly. First half is easy and the second half has a little climb. The three kids and trailer in tow made it a good workout for about a mile. Plenty of wild flowers still out and not as many butterflies as a few weeks ago. Plenty of horses and bikers out on the trail but great views. Even saw a big tarantula which the kids were stoked on.

Great hike! I went on a Friday early afternoon. The trail was completely empty. Tons of butterflies and so peaceful - the views are unreal. Like straight out it some lord of the rings hobbit village views shit. TONS of butterflies though as I continued to the point where I was ducking out of the way there were so many. Once I got to Modelo trail it got very narrow and overgrown I was regretting it until I got to the top and saw the most amazing views. But the oath is extremely narrow and overgrown so just be aware! Would recommend!!

Went on hike on Sunday April 29 a group of 10 around noon. There were plenty of parking spots. Park rangers were there to provide information of trails. Considering weekend, not many people were on the trails. All hikers we met along the way were very friendly. We’ll definitely go back.

Nice meadows. Did this loop in about an hour and 15. My fitbit calculated 3 miles even.

Did a short hike after being restricted by a cold for a couple weeks. Everything is green. Great time to get out and enjoy the Las Virgenes Highlands and Palo Comado areas.

Great trail, the hills were a grind on my bike but rewarding view. Not 9 miles though. More like 1-2 miles tops. But connects to other trails.

Modelo has some great views. A total cardio grind going up those hills. Coming down wasn't as fun as it should have been because I was blocked by horse riders and some sharp turns. I'll give it another go, though, some time soon. Also, not sure why it says 9 miles. maybe I missed something but it seems like after a couple of hills it connects you to pallomado, and from there you can either go to China Flats or Sheep Corral.

I loved this hike...We went with my boyfriend and son and his girlfriend and it was lovely on an 85 degree afternoon. The breeze is gorgeous and the views and rolling hills are fantastic. I added plenty of photos for you all to enjoy. It is a nice family hike. Keep in mind the first 1/2 mile is uphill the last 1/2 mile is downhill. There are a lot of horses on this trail which actually add to it in a pleasant way. There is also a Park Ranger booth at the base of the hike to answer any questions and give you a map as there is more than one trail. Enjoy!
