This was a serious hike to the summit from Regency! This trail suggests that you head up Mitchell Canyon to the peak but I went reverse and took the Donner Trail to the summit. Either way is a rough hike. If you head up Mitchell Creek to the summit, you’re on a 8 mile death march to the top and Donner Trail is a brutal but shorter 6 mile hike to the summit. Heading down Juniper Trail and Mitchell Canyon is certainly easier on the knees. Bring lots of water for this adventure and you can re-fill at the summit or Juniper campgrounds. FYI - This is not 13.7 miles and at least a 15 mile loop.

The most amazing Mt. Diablo hike yet! Got on the trail well before dawn and made way with the first footprints through the fresh snow all the way to the summit (or at least was following a bobcat or baby mountain lion's tracks). I experienced the most incredible sunrise over the unusual snow covered hills. Cold, windy and challenging, but well worth the early start on this perfectly timed day. See my pics.
