Amazing trail. Sandy and flat at first. After the two first miles it starts to go up. The trail is a bit rocky some places. But in general not a very difficult hike. Very beautiful along the trail, but the waterfall in the end is so worth it. I recommend it.

One of the prettiest hikes I’ve been on! Agree with others about planning ahead and starting early. Lots of exposed areas - be sure to use sunscreen & wear protective clothing. Also, bugs! Lots of them. Was very thankful to have bug spray with us, and even after saturating ourselves we still had mosquitos pestering us from time to time. Do get an early start, there are definitely bears about. We found droppings on the trail! Overall a beautiful hike that gives huge reward for little effort. Definitely recommend!

This was a great hike, but it's at least 9.2 mile out and back. The park sign even shows 4.6 mile one way. We ended up with 9.6 miles in 5.5 hours with stops and lunch along the way. Interesting hike with several types of terrain and wonderful views. We did run across a rattlesnake on the way back so take care.

Great Hike! Don’t leave it too late in the day, as the sun is lost in the canyon, plus the natives (bears) come out to play.

A HUGE thanks to everyone who mentioned the bugs. We were able to buy mosquito net hats the night before our hike, and there's no way we would have made it through the hike without them. They were $4 each at the campground store, and it's the best money we spent our whole trip! Everyone else on the trail told us how jealous they were and how miserable they were that they didn't have any. We got to the trailhead around 9:15 a.m., in the first parking lot was already pretty full. The 1st mile and a half is pretty exposed to the sun, so definitely get an early start. It's also very sandy and a little tricky to walk on. after that, you start to enter the forest where things get much cooler and shadier. there's still some exposed places as you get higher, but it's a decent combination of shade and sun. We walked at a decent clip but stopped quite a few times for water, and it took us two hours to get to the top of the falls. It took us another hour and a half to get back down. The trail was well marked and fairly easy on the way up until you get closer to the falls when there is a bit of an ascent. The hike is pretty easy except toward the end/top where it's moderate, and it was nice walking along the river for a good part of the hike.

This is a beautiful hike once you get past the 1.5 miles of walking in the sand at the start of the trail. It's also very buggy, which was annoying to say the least. We tried bug spray but it did no good, next time we'll bring hats with netting. As soon as you get into the forest the knats go way, and you can enjoy looking around at the scenery. It's a long hike uphill so be prepared, but the view is stunning! Didn't see any bears, but a couple coming back down warned us of a rattle snake on the trail. We didn't see the rattle snake but saw more of a gopher snake (still scared us). The falls was beautiful and definitely worth the hike.

First of all the waterfall in this photo is not Mist Falls. Secondly I may be bitter from starting at Roaring Falls (which added way more milage due to misinformation by Parks staff). Third the little gnats have no respect for bug spray or personal space via your orifices. The falls (actually all the falls in Kings Canyon) are short stumpy and underwhelming. The only thing which made this hike worth it was going beyond the waterfall (more like a water slide) up to an epic view of the canyon. Not a tough hike but the bugs will make your life hell, luckily they calmed down around 2pm.

This 8 plus mile out and back hike is flat for the first 2 miles, but the soil is a bit sandy. i would rate mile 3 as easy/moderate. The fun starts just after mile 3 ends. You have a rock scramble and moderate climb to the base of the falls. Some of the climb is on man-made stone steps with a railing. You can extend the hike an extra tenth of a mile each way by going to the top of the falls, but the best views are at the base. Beware of gnats and bugs. I had to wear a head and face mesh to keep the bugs at bay.

9/8/19 This was one of the most scenic hikes Ive ever done. I am convinced it is highly underrated. The hike is very easy and takes you through dense forest providing excellent shade nearly the whole way. Come prepared for mosquitoes in the summers. If you love water features, then you will love this hike. The water was so clear and often had a turquoise hue reminiscent of tropical beaches. The tall walls that surround you make you feel so small in comparison. Take your time with this one and enjoy the views. You’ll be sad leaving the trail like a kid leaving Disneyland!

The reviews were not joking when they said bugs. We had initially planned on hiking to Paradise Valley past the falls, but first thing in the morning as the sun came up, we decided to turn around after spending some time at the falls to try our luck elsewhere in the park. Beautiful hike as the sun creeped up the canyon cliffs, but the bugs drop it to a 4/5. Would hike again, but with bug nets.

Beautiful hike and not difficult at all. Waterfall at the end is great - and you can swim in there too.

Beautiful hike! Well maintained. First 2 miles have limited shade and the trail is more sandy than compact, but at least it’s flat. Found a few spots along the way where you can jump in the river (or just dip your toes in like me). Like others have mentioned, the whole hike out and back is 9 miles, not 8. And the bugs are annoying but sunglasses and bandana over my nose/mouth and worked for me. The views are breathtaking and the waterfall at the end lives up to its name. Definitely doable for all ages. Well worth the trip!

We started this trail at around 11am. It took 3.5 hours out and back. The views along the trail are fantastic and the final view of Mist falls is amazing! We cooled down for half an hour at the falls. There were many bugs along the way. Suggest using bug repellent! All in all an amazing hike :)

I was here 8/25/19 (National Park Birthday 103) This is my third time at Kings Canyon National Park of this year, I think I know why it called Kings Canyon because it is the KING the CANYON. The hike is 9.2 miles to the falls( not 8.1) Easy hike and super pretty, not to much of elevation change, after a mile frown the trailhead, come a long with river and a lot of small falls. (they are big to me) Stay close to the river made you feel much cooler, And the sounds of those falls just likes .... ( just close your eyes) When i arrived the falls, stayed there for 20 minutes. I had full covered to hiking out. They were few children on this hike, they looked very happy. A lot of mosquitoes ( bring deep wood, spaying on you every 20 minutes) you will winner. Because Kings of Canyon, it has a lot of bears. Be careful with them, I will come back to this hike again.

Amazing hike! If you’re looking for great views and a waterfall, this one has them both. Loved how the scenery changes throughout the hike. Not too steep, moderate incline and climbs but the beginning is pretty flat. There is horse poop and gnats in your face along the way but not too big of a deal. It is rather hot as there is limited shade for a good portion of the hike, but at the end near the falls it is cooler with the spray from the falls. You can also go up to the top of the falls for another great view! (Also, this is not a loop and is ~1 mile longer than reported here.)
