The trail starts at O’melveny Park, which is nice and clean. You walk through the park until the trail starts. You’ll see a sign that says Equestrian/O’melveny... unless you have a horse... lol you know which way to go. Well, the trail starts through a slightly shaded area and is pretty flat. But once you hit the hill, it’s uphill from there with little flat areas. It was harder than I expected. I don’t think it should be marked as moderate. Maybe it’s just me. Plenty of chances for scenic photos of the valley. Once you get towards the top there’s a shaded area with a tree with a bench you can hang out at. The top of the hike is just a little further. After that, there’s an easier windy path or a steeper straight path to get to the top. Almost forgot... there another way to and from the top on the left side of the park. We took this way down. Much steeper but shorter distance. Sort of like a shortcut but it’s harder. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

The trail is beautiful but I think it should be rated as difficult. The first third was easy to moderate and the last two thirds were quite steep.

Loved this hike! It’s definitely a moderate hike that requires some endurance for all the hills. I would not take a beginner here due to the amount of hills that are pretty steep. Moderate to more advanced hikers for this one. I also think there are many ways to enter this hiking trail that allows for more of a flatter trail experience , but I do not know that so well. I’m only giving information based off of entering the hike through O’Melveny Park.

A nice workout hike. If you’re looking for a nature getaway there are better local options. Very steep incline on the way up with excellent views of the valley from the top

You can't complete the loop unless you have poles because it's ridiculously steep. Just FYI

This was my first time at this park. I hiked the equestrian trail loop, going counterclockwise from the parking lot. It was beautiful and peaceful, and perfect for someone like me who is trying to get active again after being out of shape for a few years—slightly challenging without being too difficult. My route was just under a mile from start to finish. There were other trails that branched off from the one I followed, and I’m excited to come back and explore more of them!

Moderately strenuous hike with some steep inclines peppered along the way to give you a good sweat. Would absolutely recommend, but remember: Wear appropriate footwear Bring at least 72 ounces of water Practice “Leave No Trace” etiquette Ascent has right of way No one wants to hear your music, keep the speakers in the car and be courteous of others who are trying to enjoy themselves
