The road / trail is about 1.6 miles from the locked gate. Just past the gate there are 4 old buildings that have been converted to picnic areas. Follow the trail all the way to the stonehouse. The house is very well maintained and has tones of info. There is a restroom with running water. The trail runs along the creek for most of the way. Hundreds of birds and many forms of wildlife.

Pretty walk from gate to Stonehouse.

Jan 11, 2018. Mission creek to pct north. Took pct north til it dropped down into an adjoining canyon where the water was. Followed the water back to mission creek junction at the stone house. Nice weather, nice hiking. Didn’t see anyone else, but still an awesome day!

The Mission Creek Preserve itself is fantastic.

I am giving one star because the default map on this app is incorrect. For some reason, the All Trails map shows this trailhead west of Highway 62. When I select “Directions,” the All Trails app switched to Google maps which took me to a location in front of a private home in the middle of the city of Desert Hot Springs. If your map does the same, it is wrong.

The trailhead starts east of Highway 62. Some of the user maps are correct.

So beautiful right now with all the flowers. The creek is running and the birds are singing. Great easy trail but long enough to feel your heart beat. FYI The directions on the map here are wrong. It's only a few miles inches on 29 nine palms heading towards Joshua tree. You'll need to make a left on Mission Creek And follow the road down and park at the gate.

One of the best trails in the Coachella Valley. It's best to have a permit so you can park behind the gate. In winter it's lush, the creek is flowing, wildflowers are abundant and birds are everywhere. The payoff is at the end where you can overlook Whitewater Canyon.

Very short but one of my absolute favorite places to go. It's not really a trail, more like a road, but it's a beautiful hike. Park at the gate, and follow the road 1.6 miles to the stonehouse. You will pass a wetlands area with hundreds of birds chirping, and the creek running. The stonehouse is an awesome spot to sit and relax and just enjoy the beautiful views and maybe picnic.
