I did the trail in reverse and I will say that when you get past the falls the grade gets and stays steep. I'd say low of 20 deg and upwards of 45 deg grade. I did enjoy the trail. there are some parts that get narrow and you go through some light branches. I missed one part of the trail as by the time I realized it I didn't want to turn around. also a short detour to get a closer look at the falls is nice.

Having not hiked in 4 months, this trail was brutal. It was worthwhile though. Be warned, there are a lot of "One-Way Trail" signs put up by the park service, so trying to do the trail as it looks on the map here on AllTrails is pretty near impossible. Right from the start, there's a detour up Dool Trail, then back down on Middle Ridge Road. That adds almost a mile to the trail. Then somewhere between the 4 and 5 mile mark (sorry, I should have recorded the trail or taken better notice of where I was) the trail completely, and I mean completely, disappears. There are trees growing where the trail should be, and very heavy and thick leaf coverage all over the ground. It looks like no one has gone that way in ages and it just grew over. I stopped there to think about what my options were, then a couple of other hikers ended up there with me about 10 minutes later. None of us could see any sign of a trail. I wasn't about to go back, so I decided to just go through it because I was pretty certain that's where the trail was supposed to be. I trekked through it, it was not too far, and finally found the trail again on the other side. I was on my way again. I ended up stopping close to Berry Creek Falls to have lunch and along came the other hikers who were stuck with me previously. They said they followed me through about 15 minutes after I had gone. There were lots of people near and around the falls, and as can be expected, more folks closer to the trail entrance, but once you're deep into it, you see very few other hikers. Just you and nature :) Despite the unexpected detours and disappearing trails, I'm still going to say 5 stars for this one. It was beautiful and and fun.
