As amazing as it is to hike to Round Lake via Big Meadow, it's even more amazing to start from Meiss Meadow. I hiked this on 8/3 and I've never seen so many wildflowers in bloom at once in this area. Definitely a new and improved spin on an old favorite.

Such a beautiful trail - the wildflowers have already peaked, but there are still enough in bloom to make a very picturesque hike. Very busy with weekend backpackers and a little muddy from all of the snowmelt, but still a wonderful and leisurely trek. Be sure to check out the historic Meiss cabin a little before mile 3!

Explored this trail as far as I could before hitting nonstop snow, which was about 2.5 miles. Up to that point there are patches of snow, but they aren’t terrible and you can still see the trail emerge on the other side. Once I dropped down over the ridge and into the meadow, it was all snow. No postholing since it’s pretty packed, but you’d need GPS to follow the trail if there are no fresh tracks. The views were gorgeous, however, and some wildflowers are already starting to make an appearance in some areas!

This was a spectacular hike with breathtaking wildflower displays and beautiful views. When you drop down into the meadow the sheer volume and variety of wildflowers defies belief. From the trail head, you hike through a nice glen of aspen through a small section of pine forest, then up a rather barren ridge. From there, the meadow is spread out before you. It's a nice hike through the meadow, then back into pine forests to the lake. Some wonderful craggy cliff walls can be seen as you walk through the meadow and they offer a splendid backdrop to the lake. Mid-July the biting flies were out in force, so bring lots of bug spray.

This was a beautiful hike, nothing too fancy. It was very windy the day I hiked so the temperatures were cool. Few dogs off leash, no real issues though.
