Beautiful views of the ocean. Nice to go to the beach and relax after nice moderate hike. All uphill first half. Downhill lots of uneven paths and dirt bike trails. Some shade on the way back but none on the uphill climb.

Mostly wide uneven trails, lots of hikers, runners, dogs and mountain bikes. But it didn’t feel crowded thanks to the wide trails. And all of the cyclists (about 20) during my hike were extremely courteous. Great steep incline at the top and panoramic ocean views. Saw at least 3 hawks wheeling in sky.

Great hike with excellent views of Montara Beach and the surrounding area. The trail is mostly a dirt road, so it's wide and has a bunch of bikers. I recommend a morning hike so you get the cool ocean breeze. It's pretty exposed up there. It's very easy to add more miles at the top if you want more distance.

Lots of wide trails which is perfect for covid times but mostly in the sun and straight up hill so be prepared! The trails coming back were often the beaten path which were nice!

Lovely trail, nice views. Gradual switchbacks until closer to the end, then it gets tougher. I parked at the state beach and walked to the trailhead. Clocked in around 7 miles.

We decided to take some alternate trails to make it (a) more interesting and (b) a loop. Slow going with very steep ups and downs & loose dirt / gravel. Be careful for fast and reckless mountain bikers, which can be common on some of the trails. But beautiful all around, and perfect on an overcast day since it’s pretty exposed.

Definitely steep but beautiful. There were multiple dogs on the trail and only 1 off leash.

Nice hike for a clear day in winter. Most of the hike is unshaded. Views are spectacular.

HikingNo shade

Well marked, but not very shaded. We didn’t make it to the top - we did about two miles in and then turned around - because it was so steep both my husband and dog weren’t feeling well. It gets really warm hiking under the direct sunlight, so bring lots of water. The first bit of the hike is beneath cloud level so you’re able to see a pretty view. After about 0.5 miles, you’re above cloud-level so the view is mainly just clouds. It was either paved or dusty dirt road the entire way. There is a small lot to park in that only fits around 4 cars, but if you drive a little bit further, there are many other spots to park.

HikingGreat!No shade

Beautiful views of the ocean, a wide well-maintained trail. Breathtaking on a sunny day with the fog rolling in along the hills. Steady easy grade at the beginning with a steeper climb near the end. Parking directly at the trailhead is limited but there is a larger parking lot slightly down and across the road, which feeds into a small trail that leads back to the trailhead. A good casual weekend hike and close to several lunch spots near the bay. Not too crowded on the trail, but the parking lot was very busy when we returned at noon.
