This trail gets 5 stars for being so damn useful. As one of the steepest grades in the Bay Area, it’s a great way to train for longer hikes or just get in a great workout. I didn’t even do the .4 mile round trip segment up to Knibb’s Knob, which I might check out next time, because I had a particular goal in mind. This brings me to its second and most important use: access to the rest of Uvas Canyon, including all of the waterfalls. This county park is technically closed right now, and I have no idea why. The only issue is Croy Rd being washed out. So if you can stomach a nearly vertical, 2 mile uphill climb after exploring the park and maybe having lunch at the deserted campground, and you don’t mind bumping along some dirt roads in the mountains to get to the trailhead, you can have this lush paradise all to yourself—and the waterfalls are gushing right now! 1/14/2018
