Volunteers have been working to clear the dozen-plus downed trees and the work is nearly completed. The mosquitos were barely an issue the second week of August. Unfortunately we saw no fish.

Went there on 06/23 on backpacking. Pretty easy hike. but the place is infested with mosquitoes and no one will be spared even if you use repellent spray and face net. Throughout the hike a colony of them will surround you and protect you from other insects. Couldn't stay outside of the tent for long.. Though the hike is pleasurable couldn't enjoy cause of the mosquito menace ...

First 20 minutes were brutal, tons of mosquitoes. It gets better though, hang in there. Try not to stop. Hobler lake is beautiful and very peaceful. Not too much to see on the way, most of the time you are walking trough forest with no view. But the forest itself is beautiful. The drive up to the trailhead is gorgeous!

Just went up on Monday and the trail was beautiful. The last mile there were a significant amount of fallen trees blocking the trail so make sure you pay close attention and do not go off trail. The water level in the lake was pretty low, but still offered a beautiful sight. I would recommend it for the beauty, but not for the fishing.

The lake had awesome campsites once we got there. The meat bees where everywhere in camp but if you can look past that Great Lake to hike to and not a lot of traffic when we went. Had the lake to ourselves.

we fished Hobbled in late September. Great place. Great fishing. There used to be b rooks, now rainbows. Not year around though unless for snowmobiles.

I just went hunting up there and got a nice buck with some friends. Its not at Shaver lake like the site says. its actually at the Courtright reservoir above Wishon. another hour from shaver. But it is very beautiful. good camping fishing hiking hunting 4x4 and all that. Only thing is the res is very low right now. VERY. Might wanna check on that before you go.

Easy to follow trail. Best fishing out of a natural lake I have ever fished. Native rainbows ranging from 7-13 inches. Great camp site on east side of lake.

I did this in mid September 2013. It was a relatively easy hike. Not too long and not too steep. It was the perfect hike for my wife, who had never done this before and was facing a double mastectomy in a few weeks to deal with breast cancer. She did awesome. The scenery was beautiful, especially from the top of Maxson Dome. Hobler Lake is small and there are not too many flat spots for a large group of campers, like we had. But, it is very pretty and memorable for us.
