Great trail. Did the hike with 2 families and all had a good time. Kids ages 7-13. Had a snack at West Point Inn and took in the view.

totally different hike in winter vs early Summer - so many waterfalls and high water in creeks. In the Summer the trail is lined with flowering plants. Always a great time, but bring trekking poles for Hogback Rd; it is very steep and covered in loose rocks. I would absolutely have been on my butt without them

Lovely loop in Mt Tam! Park in the lot across from Mountain Home Inn then make your way up the road past the fire station. If you go clockwise, the first half of the loop goes through shady trees and is very lovely. Some mud still from the recent rains. Views at the top are outstanding and the walk down the fire road has lots of nice views as well. The very end was REALLY steep, a little painful on the knees. Overall, very enjoyable hike.

This is a great trail, and not too busy even on a weekend. We hiked it counter-clockwise, which gave us steep inclines on fire roads to start with, and a more narrow (and prettier) trail with some steps for the decline. Nice to have a clean bathroom and chance to refill water bottles along the way.

as you pass the fire station and water tank, veer left up the stairs for a lovely trail through the woods that gently climbs up to a 360° view. Tje fire road and especially the very last section is boring and is a mountain biking trail. The very last part was very washed out and traction was challenging on the very steep grade - I wished I'd had trekking poles. This might be best as an out and back (same distance).

We hiked to West Point inn and then, rather than go back via the exposed fire road (and the very steep gravelly downhill stretch at the end), took Old Stage road to Bootjack and back on Matt Davis.. Made a nice 6.5 mile loop with plenty of shade on a day that was foggy lower down but quite hot once we got up on the mountain. All the steep bit was at the beginning on Matt Davis to Nora and just a little downhill on the way back. Lots of wild iris and streams and opening to glorious views south.

This trail has wonderful views of the bay as well as new growth redwoods. There were plenty of waterfalls and surprisingly not that much mud (there was only one small section on the Matt Davis stretch). I went up Hogback and basically went a reverse trail since Hogback is pretty steep and hurts my knees going down. The only downside is that there are bicyclists on Railroad Road, and while most were polite, some would quickly whip around corners with no warning and nearly run me over.
