HikingGreat!

Nice workout. Steep at places. We went counterclockwise based on recommendations and glad we did it.

Beautiful hike. Pretty muddy and slippery after the rain, so be prepared to go off-trail and bring poles

Great workout. Go counter clockwise. Awesome view once you reach the top and hike the ridge.

Favorite trail yet! Amazing single track that follows a creek, heavily wooded, fairly easy hike the first half mile, then steep accent to top of ridge. Dirt fire road follows the ridge, then back into fantastic single track, lots or roots and rocks, take it easy and you will love it! The final decent is very steep, take care of your footing...I felt like a “real hiker” on that final trail! Challenging and invigorating, will def explore further! Passed eight people, mostly alone on the majority of the hike. Cows and birds galore...even saw a salamander!

Part of the trail needs maintenance, and hard to follow in a few places. Ended up doing a bit more than 6mi

Really small parking spot. My pup and I chose to go clock wise we started off with a zig zag incline not to bad. I could not do what was posted as I did notice a signer posted about park limit lines with private property so chose to cut it a little shorter then expected. There was plenty of shade but plenty of sun to still enjoy. Lots of up hill so if you do have bad knees I would not recommend to hike. At the very end of the loop it was very steep. But all In all I enjoyed the trail very much just would recommend hiking sticks. Prepare for everything.

Do it counter clockwise. Fair bit of poison oak, but you can avoid it. Steep uphill on Dewie's bday.

HikingOver grown

It’s only overgrown in certain areas but still accessible! Just watch where you are around poison oak and you’ll be fine. This is my new favorite trail!! I start off going to the right and climbing up up up! Once you get to the little ridge and keep going up there are beautiful views of the canyon. And it’s rocky and arid, just one of the many terrains you’ll hike thru. Then when you make it to the beautiful gnarled tree the golden hills with giant oaks provide partial shade. Once you get inside the canyon it’s easy and calming with plenty of shade (and sometimes cows!) I also saw a wild boar with her two little piglets!! The only downside is once you go up you gotta get back down, and my knees HATE hiking down. But hey that’s everytrail.

Be careful- this trail is really just tough in terms of the loose dirt. Also do yourself a favor and keep an eye on the map- went there wrong way twice. Solid hike that will clear your lungs. I would NOT recommend doing this in the heat. Lack of shade for a lot of the trip

Pretty muddy and slippery after a light rain but with gorgeous views. We encountered a group of cows along the trail and saw a coyote at close distance. Agree with others who recommend going counterclockwise, especially if the trail is muddy like it was today.

I’m very surprised this trail isn’t categorized as hard. We did the route counter clockwise which was a great idea because there was very steep incline that I could not imagine having to hike down. Very narrow trail at times and there was talk of rattlesnakes, but there were very scenic views.

Hiking

Very fun trail, a fair bit of poison oak this time of year, but gorgeous views and lots of great hills. We went counter clockwise as another review suggested - think that made for more up-hill on birthday, but can see why it would be preferred to go up as opposed to down that! Can’t wait to try it the other direction and to deviate to try some other off shoots and variations.

Beautiful park but the Dewey/birthday trail was not fun to go down at all, even with hiking poles. I would do a different look next time.

A nice mix of forrest, streams, steep climbs and sweeping views. Parts of Dewey’s Birthday are a bit hard to follow. Just pay close attention and you’ll be fine. Saw a bobcat not too long ago! A great local trail. I highly recommend taking the ascent early and going counterclockwise.
