This is an amazing place. Elevation is high enough to have a mountain hike feel with all the trees. Trail is flat so no hill training. Standing below the dam will take your breath away as it is such a wonderful experience. We hit the the trail early and owned it.

This was a great hike. The views were beautiful. The lake was full and there was one gate open on the Dam. I would do this again .

Took us about 4 hours total from our car to the dam and back. We were not running we were walking, we stopped to have a short lunch next to the river, and walked back on the water bridge section on the way back which you can’t walk that fast on. Views were really nice just be advised get there early especially if you want to get a chance to walk on the water bridge. Now that everyone wants to suddenly go hiking.

This trail is amazing. Flat the entire way. Great for walk, run, hike or bike and the dam at the end is so freaking cool

Did this hike 2 week ago. Was perfect weather. Parked at the trail head. First 3.5 miles easy flat with lots of dog woods in bloom. Once to the dam was lots of fun. Water rushing over the dam. Hiked around the lake for a bit to have lunch. Great long distance training. No uphill though Had a great day. YouTube Kathys outdoor adventures to see more about the hike

Said it was closed, but you can still hike down there. Few people running/hiking and biking. Nice hike with dogs, dirt road, little muddy from rain. but overall good trail!

hiked through "Lyons Reservoir Day Use Area" parked outside the gate because its only closed to vehicles, not hiking. hiked straight through which leads to lyons dam. about an hour hike down and up, really beautiful! moderate hike.

Do you know if it closed? Planning on driving there on May 8-9. Are there any hiking trails open around?

A mellow out and back. The lake was beautiful and I was lucky enough to have it to myself for about 45 minutes. Easy enough for all skill levels as long as you don’t mind a lot of time walking.

Great walk of 3.5 hours, especially during social distancing times, when parks are closed. Use running/walking shoes vs hiking boots. It can save your feet from blisters. The view was nice, the weather was amazing and getting to the dam pays off. There are some muddy sections but doable for this time of the year. One section is washed out but there are paths around.

This is an easy trail with a beautiful payoff. I only rated it at 4 because a good portion of the trail looks pretty much the same but there are some spots to see nice views and a few little waterfalls. The dam is really the reward for the mileage, albeit easy.

I cannot fairly rate this trail, I took an alternate route along the tuolumne ditch, which was fun, but the main trail was incredibly muddy and there were lots of forks, easy to get side-tracked, which incidentally is how i found the alternate route along the ditch. As a railroad enthusiast, it's really quite interesting when old defunct railroad beds are transformed into trails, especially if remnants of the railroad are still present, I found no such remnants on the short portion of this trail that I took before finding the alternate route, which was actually far more interesting, supposedly both the main trail and the ditch go nearly parallel all the way to the dam, but I didn't venture that far, maybe some day!

what an awesome day with the dogs! Part of the trail is washed out as it says in the description but there's an alternate route. also right before you get to the dam there's tons of trees that have fallen but it's easy to maneuver through them! can't wait to come back

This was a super fun hike especially if you cut down and walk the log flume. If you are scared of heights you may want to skip the flume but it really is amazing.

An easy, beautiful walk with lots of shade, no bugs, and plenty of opportunities to admire nature. About 5 miles each way. I’ll definitely be back with my bike!

I would recommend to start at the lake. Not a lot of water run off at this time of the year but the leaves changing was quite beautiful

Great for the bicyclist that want to take it one step beyond asphalt, what with being an old railroad grade, any elevation change is gradual and not very noticeable. Not much of a physical challenge, but the scenery is beautiful. An excellent way to spend any day. del

We didn’t walk the trail that starts from Sugar Pine, but the family and I walked the road around the dam. You are able to access the dam with a vehicle via Lyons Reservoir Rd. We have two small kids and infant twins, so this is a great spot for a stroller.

Very easy, nearly flat, lots of shade, 5.2 miles each way on a forestry service road the whole way. The path listed here does not go on the the flumes, if you want to walk the flumes, take one of the roads that breaks off to the left down the hill. Amazing dam at the end and is well worth the walk.

Wife and I did this two days ago. Pretty much shaded completely around lake and mostly level with only slight elevation gain and descents. Cows, horses, barn.
