Lupine Loop is a flat trail that loops around the base of Garland Ranch. Most of the trail receives direct sunlight with low shrubs alongside the path. Lots of people walk their dogs here. There are several options to extend your hike from Lupine Loop -- the trailheads appear halfway around the loop where the more heavily wooded area begins.

Nicely maintained. Started early, which is good because it warmed up quickly. Great views of Carmel Valley.

There are dozens of trails accessible from the main parking area of Garland Park. 4000 acres in all. A hike up to Snively's Ridge affords a view of the ocean, 12 miles to the west. By the way, dogs DO NOT need to be leashed anywhere in Garland Park. They just need to be "under voice control". That's why it is so popular with dog owners.

Pleasant for a nice walk but not much of a hike. For a more interesting experience, use Lupine Loop as a starting point for one of the other hikes in Garland Ranch.

It was a nice hike -- lots of different types of terrain: meadow, thick brush, forrest, beach, and good scenery. A little ways past the top of "ridge trail" (where the bench is) there are a few steps leading to an overlook where you can see what looks like a really fancy house (or compound). I missed it the first time I did the hike. I had a couple of complaints: the "panoramic trail" segment had long parts that were extremely overgrown (I picked a few ticks off my clothes there). And for about half the hike, the flies were a problem. But it was easier than we expected -- total hiking time was about 3.5 hours including lunch and a couple short breaks.
