An easy escape to a flower-filled meadow off the Tioga Road. Lukens Lake is a short walk to a lake that explodes into fields of wildflowers in-season. It's the perfect length for a quick leg-stretch after, or before, a long time in the car and is a great excursion for small hikers who want to explore their Yosemite. Lukens Lake isn't your "typical" Yosemite trip of soaring peaks and expansive views but it's beautiful and rewarding in its own way. There are two routes to Lukens Lake, one from White Wolf, and this shorter route directly off the Tioga Road. There is a large parking area and bear boxes at the south side of the road, while the trailhead itself is across the highway (the north side) from the west end of the parking area You wind upwards through the forest for the first half-mile to a small saddle and then drop until the forest opens up a bit to a broad soggy meadow that is full of wildflowers by early August. The trail stays just at the edge of the forest and the meadow, and later the lake (this guide's track ends at a decent picnic spot but there are more spots around the south and west sides of the lake.

Nice shady stroll in the forest. Nice lake to sit next to but not a “must do” in Yosemite. Over all very nice and easy hike. Also when I did it there was no-one there

Small be beautiful lake. Lots of wildflowers in the meadow above. Didn't see any evidence of the trail or route on the right side of the lake. The trail appears to have been rerouted to the left side.

This was a great hike. I had hiked other trails in the park that were very crowded but this was very quiet which was nice. I saw maybe 2-3 other people on the trail. You hike through the forest and then the lake is visible through the trees. Approaching it, there was a beautiful meadow full of flowers. It got a little soggy closer to the shores of the lake. I sat on a log and was battling with mosquitoes a bit. The lake and it's surroundings was so pretty and peaceful, the wildflowers were very visible in early July. If you want a break from the crowds this hike is a great choice.

Lyell Canyon is a beautiful and easy hike. We camped about 9 miles from the trail head and did a day hike the next day to Donohue Pass. We also did a scrambled up Kuna Creek to the meadow above it one day. However, it was very cold - 28 degrees one night and 17 degrees another.
