Lower Otay Reservoir: East Side is a 4.6 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Chula Vista, California that features a lake. The trail is good for all skill levels and primarily used for hiking, trail running, and birding. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Lake views, Mountain views, Eucalyptus groves and scrub brush. Trail is well marked, hard packed, mostly flat with some inclines and some rocks on trail (watch footing with small children). Some gully crossings where you may experience water in rainy season. Several trail spurs to access lakeside fishing on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays only. Dogs OK on leash. Year round access. Summertime is very warm start in the a.m. and bring water.

Established trail, mostly flat, some rocks on trail, three gully crossings possibly water and/or mud in rainy season, and a slight elevation gain. Access to lakeside fishing on Wed, Sat and Sun only. Great area for beginner mountain biking. Year round trail access. Summertime is very warm start in the a.m. and bring water. There are three picnic tables and a porta potty at the end of the trail.

Area wildlife: Osprey, Egrets, Herons, Ducks, Morning Doves, Clark’s and Western Grebes, Cooper’s Hawks, Western Meadowlarks, Horned Larks and Ground Squirrels and Rabbits.
