Lower Otay Reservoir: East Side is a 4.6 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Chula Vista, California that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and bird watching. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Lake views, Mountain views, Eucalyptus groves and scrub brush. Trail is well marked, hard packed, mostly flat with some inclines and some rocks on trail (watch footing with small children). Some gully crossings where you may experience water in rainy season. Several trail spurs to access lakeside fishing on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays only. Dogs OK on leash. Year round access. Summertime is very warm start in the a.m. and bring water.
The trail was in good condition, especially after the recent rain. Pretty easy hike, no hills. Definitely will be doing it again soon!
Nice quiet trail. Parking is across the street from the trailhead. Some rocky areas. It was muddy because of yesterday’s rain and the mud feels like you’re sinking in, so boots are better. Mostly flat so an easy hike.
Beautiful day for a ride. Working to regain my trail skills, instincts, and endurance.
If you come in the evening you’ll for sure see tarantulas! Saw 8 tarantulas and a rattle snake
Beautiful area - trail is mixed use hiking and biking - some areas muddy and washed out / but still workable! Great hike!
