great trail. The actually distance to the Los pinetos radio tower is 3.9 making this a 7.8 mile hike not 6.6. The first 3 miles are mostly narrow single track. Once you hit the vault toilet at the junction of the santa Clara divide road, the rest of the hike is along a fire road and the climb is gradual. overall it's a moderate hike, definitely not hard as it's rated. Definitely recommend. There is some nice scenery along the way especially up the first 3 miles . After that, you are treated to great views of Santa Clarita and the south east corner of the San Fernando valley.

well this hike is a very nice hike. there are lot of places with shades you can rest. i will consider this hike a modarate hike instead of hard. over all good hike with great views

I started this trail at 10:30 and was back to my car 2:30 with half hour break for body fuel. The hike to summit is more moderate than hard, I'd say overall this trail is more on moderate side. The views are pretty cool up at the tower. The trail was nice and relaxing, not too many people. Most hiker were coming down when I was going up so that's why it was quiet, if you go very early you'll get a lot of hikers. Overall decent hike. Rated it 3 stars due to the tower at the top obstructing the view.

I had to start the 1st day of the year off right with an epic ass kicker hike. Apparently so did 11ty billion other residents of Santa Clarita. Haha This usually quiet trailhead was teeming w cars and the trail had a good 50+ hikers which is unheard of for the area. But rock on you New Years Day hikers you. After skipping over this hike on my to-do list all year, I finally decided to give it a go for my Jan 1st hike. It's a steady burn going up a steep ~3mi of mountainside but these cool temps made it much easier. The trail serpentines its way up above the Placerita waterfall canyon. At a few vistas you can hear the creek rushing below. As you switchback up, you hit a few really pretty, shady, oak forest areas. The grasses are greening up and there's still a lot of colorful sycamore leaves clinging to branches along the way. It's obvious the trail is used for mountain bikers but I can't imagine that ride up. Phew. ~2mi up, you hit an access road and a pit toilet. The road carries you up the rest of the way to the radio towers at the very top. I stopped in the gale force winds for a quick break and to snap a few pics but that was it. I hurried back down to the more sheltered section of trail to get out of the winds. The views up there were well worth the climb tho. 360˚ of the entire SCV, SFV, DTLA areas and beyond. The return trip was a quick but jarring trail run back down to the bottom.

Nice secluded trail with quite a bit of shade. Be warned though, it is a pretty steep up hill for about 3-4 miles with few flat points

Nice views, towers at the top make it a bit anticlimactic

Trail was nice and definitely open. The trail that isn’t open is the Waterfall which is right next to Los Pintos so don’t let the signs scare you. Nobody on the trail when I went but there was poison ivy all along the trail in certain parts so be careful. “Leaves of three— let me be”

I hiked the Los Pinetos trail today for the first time in a few years. The trail was closed for some time because of fires that have burned through that area, but it's been reopened and is in good shape. The first mile is the steepest part and then it lessens quite a bit, although it sure feels like more than 1,800 feet of climbing. Great views on the way up and down. It's a good workout with nice views - what more could you want?

Went there today on a Saturday. I got there around 1pm and it was about 94° out. The first part of the trail lead to 3 other trails at a picnic area. The waterfall trail is currently closed. I took the Los Pinetos Trail and it was incline for the most part. I only made it up 2 1/2 miles today but I plan to return to complete the 6miles earlier in the day next time.

No shade until mile marker 1.75. Finally you ge shade but that comes with gnats. 2.8 miles all uphill. Go early.

This trail is finally open once again after 3 years. Trail is in great shape now. Start early, as there is no shade on the lower sections. I started around 8 AM, and it was already pretty hot. The last mile or so is shaded in Oak trees. I hiked up to the saddle, and ran back down. Tuff trail. Be in shape for this one.

Park service has about a half mile to go. They have a small skid steer they are cutting the trail with. The trail up from the nature center has a couple spots that are going to be a bit tough to fix. Hiked this trail on 5/13/19.

Trail is technically closed but there is parking 0.30 mile north down the road at Golden Valley open space on the left. Due to the fire a few years ago and rains the trail looks very different from it's hey days. Not much shade anymore. Only signs of activity were MTB tracks and encountered a lone rider coming down the trail. There's a small water crossing in the beginning but it's nothing too crazy. You can hear the waterfall down below as you go up in elevation. Trail can be narrow in some spots and overgrown so be careful where you step especially on a hot day. Not sure about the progress the park services/volunteers are making but it doesn't seem like this trail along with the trail that leads to the nature center will be officially open any time soon.

Trailhead is closed and there are No Parking - Tow Away signs at the parking area. Don’t understand because according to someone’s post 3 days ago it was a great hike, but was apparently closed like this a year ago???
