This was a great hike but boy, oh, boy was it stressful. We were planning on hiking to Dog and Lembert Domes then continuing on to Dog Lake. We kept looking for a left turn onto the dimes but never saw it and eventually realized that we were heading to Dog Lake. We were hoping to just find the domes on our way back but just couldn’t find the trail, as the trail signs were a bit confusing. It turns out that we began at a different trailhead than the books, guides, and apps instruct, so we went back to the highway and went about a mile north to the correct trailhead from which we made it to Dog and Lembert Domes.

The entire hike wasn’t too bad. We definitely needed to take a few breaks because of the altitude and elevation gain, but the views from the top were well worth it! I think that this would be a great alternative (or addition) to Half Dome if you’re unable to get a permit but still want 360 views.

Fantastic views!

A short hike considering the incredible views you get. Starts off flat from the parking lot, then involves some steep uphill sections for about 3/4mi. The next section is nice and flat through the trees, then a moderate uphill section before you have to scramble up the granite dome. Stay to the left for an easier path to the top.

This is a fun short hike up the dome that gives great views of Tuolumne Meadows. Here is a trip report with pictures and maps from when I did the hike: https://backpackersreview.wordpress.com/trip-reports/yosemite-hiking-clouds-rest/

We began this hike from the dog lake parking lot, crossed the road and the first 3/4 of the hike was steep. Visible trail, easy to find and follow. The views from the top of the dome are gorgeous. Excellent, short hike to wake you up and get your blood pumping. We did another hike after this one.

Great easy hike heading towards Yosemite.

Short, easy going hike. The only real "hard" part is at the beginning where you hit the incline. That doesn't last long though, and once you reach the top of it the trail flattens out until you reach the dome.
The views from Lembert are amazing. I highly recommend this hike.

Straight forward hike, steep up - when you get to the first level going on to the top looks intimidating, it's really not. You go around to the left and follow to the meadows side then walk to the top. The view is spectacular of the meadows, cathedral peaks and toward ohlmstead point. Well worth a little bit of vertigo!

Great views, not a bad hike at all! Fun amount of adventure depending on your route. You can walk along along the ridge of the dome or keep your distance and play it safe, all the way to the top.

Wonderful hike, walking distance from a nice campground. Well marked, scenic, easy access.

Amazing view from the top of the dome. I felt a little shaky on my feet up there given the height and slope of the rock, but most everyone just walks around no problem. I took a short detour to Dog Lake which was all right, nice in late August. Overall the hike was great. I wouldn't do it again unless I took someone who has never been. It's a view to experience for sure. The rest of the hike is pleasant.

It was a great 3 hour hike! Hike was mildly strenuous at the beginning, but got easier. You can hike to the top of the dome, but it's a little steep if you're afraid of heights, but still a great view from just below the peak. Went to dog lake on the way back, which was quick and nice also. Highly recommend!

A fine hike and a perfect choice for your first day in the High Country. Easy enough that if you're not acclimated to the elevation you can do it on this trail. Fantastic views of the many granite peaks surrounding and of course pristine and peaceful Tuolomne Meadows. Great reward for a relatively undemanding climb. But beware! To reach the upper peak there is some scrambling required on the back side of the semi-steep granite dome!

WOW WOW WOW that view at the top was breathtaking. I admit after doing half dome and clouds rest I just didn't expect much out of this hike, but it was fantastic one of my favorite hikes of the trip

View from the top of the dome is spectacular. You could see the whole valley from the top.

I'd say this trail is closer to Moderate than easy; not sure who or how they use this rating. It is a beautiful trail that ends at stunning views of the wilderness.

The view at the very very top is worth it! Especially during sunset.

It was a steady climb up and around the back of the dome; then a quick accent onto the bare rocks and you have arrived to some of the most amazing views of Yosemite park. It's a must!

Rated 5 stars because it has the best views for the (minimal) effort! Accessed directly from Tuolumne Meadows or from the Tuolumne Lodge hikers' parking.

easy hike but not for the weary of heights. found out i have a great fear after looking over the edge at sunset. gorgeous views of Tuolumne meadows. if going at dusk bring a jacket as it is windy and chilly at those elevations.

One of my favorites, have done this twice, as it is a relatively short and demanding (steep and steady) hike that rewards you with spectacular views of the whole area around Tuolumne Meadows. You have two approaches which are both really fun. The first time we hiked it we started down the gravel road to the left of the main Lembert Dome parking lot and hiked up around the dome to the left and at the ridge fork where the trail goes left to Dog Lake, you take a right to hike up the granite backside to the top. Alternate way which is shorter and more direct is to go east about a mile on Tioga Rd. from the main parking lot to a pullout (not much parking here) on the right and the trail goes up the hill across the road on the left, joining the Dog Lake Trail at the same place the other route takes you. If it is a nice day, you can really see a good 360 degree view at the top - great place for a picnic!
