Take a stroll around the tall rolling grassy hills east of San Francisco in the Las Trampas Regional Wilderness. You climb almost 1000 feet in the first mile, but then it’s an easy amble along the ridge with stunning views in every direction. Wildflower lovers will love the springtime scenery of Las Trampas Regional Wilderness, but when the blooms have faded this East Bay park still has plenty to marvel at. Eagle-eyed hikers in autumn and winter will spot birds of prey amongst the gliding turkey vultures, and there's also the chance of a golden eagle sighting.

Decent trail with very nice views of Mt Diablo on one side and the bay on the other. Recommended counter clockwise with the steep part first. A bit exposed and the trails are more large fire roads than actual trails. Not the best but good.

It starts out steep. View is very beautiful. You don’t have to hike a loop. I saw most people include us hiked to the top then hike back along same road.

Pretty hard with a the climbing, not my favorite because the views were just meh

Great trail for someone starting quite early in the day. Very little to no shade. Perfect for Fall/Winter or summer morning. Getting there is easy; plenty of parking. Good signage throughout the trail. Beautiful views.

Beautiful view of the east bay from the top of the hike. On a clear day, you can see the city of San Francisco. Highly recommended

Arrived at 8 but the gate was still locked so had to walk for about 10 minutes from the overflow lot to the trailhead. Pretty warm day. Several cows, lots of lizards, and a skunk. Nice views of the entire bay from the ridge. 9/1/19

Started with the monster climb up the paved road. Once I made it to the ridge it was a nice jog down. Very beautiful trees and some wildlife. Amazing views. Well worth it and a great work out.

Two words: no shade. I did this trail counter-clockwise to get the climb out of the way. Woof, that was steep and challenging. The first mile or so is on paved/semi-paved roads and is just kind of a slog in the sun. Very steep. Once you get up to the ridge it’s more undulating and the views are great. The descent was also kind of challenging, I thought. At several points I walked down kind of sideways to maintain my balance. I’d personally rate this one as moderate-hard due to the complete lack of shade and steeper includes and declines than I have found typical on AllTrails “moderate” trails.

Great hike, but first, the name is wrong. There is a Rocky Ridge Loop Trail in Las Trampas, and this route goes near it, but doesn't use it. More accurate name would be Rocky Ridge View Trail Loop, since a large part of the loop is on the Rocky Ridge View Trail. Great Father's Day hike. Cool, foggy and windy, to start, especially along the ridge, then spectacular views as the sun broke through. The East Bay Hills have some awesome places!

Parking lot has a couple dozen spots that are nearly filled by 9am but plenty of off-road parking. Went in a clockwise direction, allowing the first two thirds to be on a trail and the last third on a steep, but paved road. Fog was thick on the Ridgeline and there was lots of moisture in the air, causing water to drip from our hats' brims. There was quite a bit of wind, but not too chilly. Views weren't great but there was a nice mix of forested and open space. Nice quick hike if you live in the area. 6/15/2019

Super muddy/overgrown in some parts after the rain but great trail for good workout. Took about 2 hours for total of 5 miles..pretty much all incline until probably the last mile going down rocky ridge trail if you start from elderberry trail. Great views from top of rocky ridge and bench to rest at

Nice and easy hike, great views, full of spring flowers. First part is all uphill but not crazy, then you hit the ridge and it becomes very sound of music. The trail was moderately busy. But the parking was very full. Bring sunblock because there’s very little shade.

This trail is glorious right now in mid-April with all the wildflowers! You climb almost 1000 feet in the first mile, but then it’s an easy amble along the ridge with stunning views in every direction. Most of the initial climb is paved, but once you reach the cattle gate that demarcates EBMUD land, you turn left onto a dirt trail. This hike is exposed to the sun most of the way, but the final descent along Elderberry has some nice shady spots and a pretty meadow near a stream.

The hills are green again. Great early morning hike. Views of downtown SF and the surrounding bay area.

Spectacular views from the top. A good trail after a rainy day as the whole trail is paved.

Sunday 10/28/18 Arrived at the trailhead at 7:30am. Gate does not open till 8am so we parked down the road and walked in. It's almost 1.5 miles from there to the top. Great hill to work your legs and get warmed up. Only passed a few people at the top of the ridge. Super clear day, views of Mt. Diablo were amazing and we could see the Salesforce Tower poking out of the clouds in San Francisco in the other direction. Lot of birds, seen about five Retail Hawks. Great hike with few people. Great Sunday morning escape.

Great little loop for breaking in some new hiking boots ;) Right at the start of the trail is the ascent, but once you are all the way up the views are unbeatable! Bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat because the entire trail is exposed, saved for a bit at the end. Also worth noting that, since this is a wilderness area, there is livestock grazing permitted, so you are likely to run into (and definitely smell) the cows.

A great trail, especially running up the first hill. Once you get to the top you get a beautiful scenery.

One of our favorite hikes, We add the Devils hole loop adding 1.8 miles. Once you go over the ridge into Devils hole loop you are completely alone. No city noise, no other hikers - ever, no mountain bikes. Just Retail Hawks, Turkeys, Stellars Jays and views of Castro Valley, Oakland airport, and San Pablo Reservoir Dam. It is single track with switchbacks heading down Sycamore Trail, Fun. The climb out of Devils hole is straight up, a butt kicker. This is one of our go-to hikes. Then come down Elderberry is mostly under canopy so it's kinda doable on a warm day. Just under 8 miles.

Steep incline to start for roughly a mile but evens out near the top. Beautiful view of Diablo and lots of bird sightings. Mind the cows
