FIRE CLOSURE: As of February 2021 there are closures in this park or area due to wildfire. For more information, please visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/angeles/alerts-notices. Las Flores Canyon Trail starts off easily enough as a wide track through the haunted ruins of the Cobb Estate. The trail then totally changes character, to a narrow, cliff-hugging path that requires some scrambling and bush-whacking but results in amazing views of the surrounding areas.

This trail is terribly marked and incredibly technical with little gain (ie, a view). Save yourself the hour.

It’s a lovely trail with beautiful scenic views, but a lot of people were there unfortunately and some were not donning masks to no surprise. If people were considerate I probably would’ve completed the trail but we turned around because it became too narrow higher up the foothill.

We knew we weren’t going to follow the trail for Echo Mountain, which is much more crowded. What we didn’t expect was a mostly overgrown trail with lots of rocks, tree trunks, and pipes to scramble over. Parking is on the street, so you may have to walk a bit before you’re even at the gate. We turned around before we got to “the end” because we weren’t sure we were on a real trail. Not a trail I would recommend unless some trail maintenance is completed. There were some great views at a few points though before you descended into the stream.

This was a great hike with slightly cooler weather (November). The first part is open as it goes past the fork it changes and can be challenging at times. The trail leads up to gold mine #4 which is why I went. I have read about the canyon mines and it was worth the adventure.

Perhaps during non COVID times this might be ok. The path is narrow, and the trails is overly crowded with perhaps 2 out of every 20 people coming your way wearing masks. Being outside is awesome, but we can do so while also being careful and protecting ourselves and others by wearing a mask. i wouldn’t come back.

Trail is nice for the first half mile but becomes dangerous and narrow. Unable to complete with overgrowth and lots of bees. Don’t recommend bringing children or pets.

Fun and challenging! We went on Sunday afternoon, and once the wide road ends, we didn’t see anyone else on the trail. Thank goodness for this app, or we would have lost the trail a few times. I wouldn’t recommend this for kids or dogs, it would be dangerous for both. Parts of the trail are overgrown and hard to follow, and watch out for loose dirt! Parts of this hike are walking along a narrow path on a steep cliff.

Super overgrown but the clearing with the cave at the end of the hike was pretty cool. Wear pants. Worth it if you’re looking for something relatively short and slightly challenging.
