The trail for the most part was in great shape. frequent trees, but parts of the trail were definitely very sunny. I would rate it as moderate, do to the frequent ups and downs of the trail. It was a good workout! Some beautiful views of the lake as you go. There is a point to go down to the lake at around the 3 mile point, as suggested, not the most beautiful spot to swim, but still a nice view :)
