Ran the loop in 88’ and the shade helped tons and the air quality is much better than southern Oregon where I was. The loop varies from fire trail to single track to across campsite roads. Overall a great 7m run, and if I ran more by the lake in the outlets I could have tacked in another mile. Not crowded, tho the air quality likely scared folks off. My intention was to hike Shasta and since that’s all closed since 9/9 bc of the fires I went here and rolled the dice. I’d definitely do it again and the far lake side trails make it all worth it.

Lake level was really low. Smoke was so thick Mount Shasta wasn't visible. There are some alternate routes that take you closer to the shoreline so I suggest those; the one passing behind the chalets is somewhat narrow with a steep drop off but not super technical. The trail at the west end of the lake is extremely rocky so bikers beware!

Beautiful meandering trail around the lake. Easy going. Lots of smoke from the fires unfortunately.

Easy trail around the lake. Very shaded and enjoyable. Was approximately 6 miles and in total took 2 hours and 15 minutes with minimal stopping.

Nice trail around the lake. Wide and flat. Mostly through trees but opens up occasionally. Easy for bicycles except one small stretch where there are some rocks.

HikingGreat!

Gorgeous hike! We went on a Saturday and while there were lots of crowds at points, there was ample parking and plenty of solitude. Its pretty easy to lose the trail— particularly once you get to Camp Siskiyou. We kept close to the waters edge to ensure we didn’t go too far off track. The beaches at the camp are definitely developed— with crowds and snack shacks. However its pretty easy to find solitude elsewhere. I hiked this whole thing in a swimsuit and water sandals. Highly recommend wearing water sandals if you plan to take a dip.

It was nice and juicy. Takes 3 hours and 20 minutes to get to mount Shasta from Sacramento. Well I took the longer route. Now it’s time to go home and get a juicy pump at home with weights to make up for the possible muscle loss this 7 mile hike has given me.

The north eastern portion of the lake near the bridge was definitely the best part. Easy flat hike around the lake with views of Shasta on the western side. Shaded like 60% of the time.

The lake is beautiful. Wonderful & grand view of Shasta. We planned to hike in and find a nice little beach for ourselves but we stumbled onto the perfect spot pretty quickly. Swam around and enjoyed the beautiful day.

I am giving it 4 stars as you are walking also close to homes and you need the all trails downloaded map as you will take the wrong direction. Going in the lake is a challenge with the many rocks but doable. Water was great better then the waterfalls.
