Lake Marie via Skyline Trail is a 6.4 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Napa, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, horses, and mountain biking and is accessible year-round. Horses are also able to use this trail.
A great half-day hike, rivalling Mount Saint Helena for enjoyment and views. Experience oak forest and open grasslands. There is a $5 parking fee.
Enter Skyline Park from the top of Imola Avenue. Parking is included in the $5 day-use fee.
I completed this trail October 11th 2020 starting at 7:15 am. This trail is located in Skyline Wilderness Park on the outskirts of Napa. Upon entering the park you must pay $5 exact change or you can buy a season pass for $22 (seems like a good deal if you buy early in the deal). There are two parking lots the lower parking lot is preferred for doing Skyline trial but tends to fill up first. After parking you will begin walking through the part of the frisbee golf course and then through some of the campground before hitting the trail head. For this hike you’ll take skyline trail to begin, it starts with a steep incline for about the first .5 miles but then will ady
Lovely loop! The skyline trail gets a little rocky but it’s a great hike and I’ll do it again and again!
We came here it was a $5 donation not bad. There’s a lot of parking. This is a camp sit so there’s a lot of people here. You can’t take dogs. The hike is extremely hard up hill all the way up. There are a ton of lose big rocks. There are a lot of bushes so it’s a little hard to see out. It’s definitely to hard for small kids to do this hike.
I’m a novice hiker. This trail was ideal for me. I consider myself in good shape. It was a nice steady climb. Wide path via the Lake Marie road trail
Awesome trail for being so close to civilization that air especially was surprisingly fresh and uplifting! Trail wasn’t too hard at all other cool thing was you can take different routes for different scenic views guess it surprised me cuz I wasn’t expecting much. Also close to home was a huge plus would definitely go again
Very nice trail overall. I did the skyline part first, the return was fine. Would recommend doing the return via the creek trail as it has more shade and a bit more interesting. Bring hat as rerun is on open trial with the sun at your back before noon and in front of you anytime after 1 pm.
Absolutely great hike! $5 to park and the gals at the window are so sweet and helpful! Quick route to the trails and I went to the right along the Skyline Trail. It was great and uphill the first 1.5 miles. Only saw 3 other groups and finished 7 miles in 2:40. I recommend staying off the “road” part because it’s just gravel and there are trails that you can take to avoid it. I’ll be back!
Nice uncrowned hike shared with more mt bikers than fellow hikers. Mix of sun and shade with nice views. Cool Karma Kit ( left bug repellent; didn’t take anything but what a great idea!) Ate lunch in the garden afterwards lots of benches and shade. The trails branch and you’ll have your choice of various routes.
Great hike with climbing elevation during the first half, followed by a nice and gradual descent and cool-off period for the last half. Nice mixture of sun and shade throughout. On warm days it's helpful to carry a bottle of bug spray in your back pocket for those pesky flies. Careful during the rainy season, as a good portion of the trail covering the first half of the hike has seasonal streams running directly through the pathway.
Excellent hike. The parking gate opens at 7am and there is a small $5 parking fee. The attendant was extremely friendly and helpful. She provided a map and an overview of the tricky parts of the trail. At the start, I saw a few deer and a flock of turkeys. The initial part of the hike had some strenuous elevation, which warmed me up quickly. The trail was well marked and well groomed. It was a little bit rocky. I did some different trails than the route originally stated, but it was well worth the diversion.
