Showed a friend the trail.

I started from the west side of the bridge and crossed over. The trail is mostly unshaded but there was relief under a bit of shade along the way. Go early in the morning before it gets hot. The gradual increase in elevation gave me enough challenge as a beginner and I didn’t think it to be overwhelming.

Heavy traffic. Lots of bikes. But a nice, easy trail. No shade.

Depending on where you are on the trail, it can be easy or quite difficult. As you get closer to the dam on the west side of the lake, the trail is narrow and very rocky, with some steep hills. The Coast to Crest Trail portion on the northern side is very nice and well maintained.

Wasn’t my fave.. maybe I didn’t get to the good part.. but the first part was directly next to the freeway which was pretty loud. Lots of bike riders and I saw a lizard get run over by one ☹️ maybe just not the trail for me, seems like others love it.

I grew up hiking here. Mad love for this place. The view is incredible at all times. There are picnic tables through out some of the trails Incase you want to take a break or just chill and enjoy the scenery. Wildlife is pretty active. If you love bird sounds you’ll love taking a hike here!

Very pretty ride along the lake’s north shoreline. Mostly flat but there are some inclines that provide a slight challenge.

great Sunday morning ride, awesome trail for mtn bikes and hiking. There's a farmers market next to the dirt parking lot Sundays from 1030 to 3pm, so I was picked up a nice basket of organic strawberries to snack on after a long bike ride.

Gorgeous hike in the spring time, beautiful lake views and rolling hills and an abundance of birds and wild flowers and blooming cactus are everywhere.

Lightly trafficked is open to interpretation, but this is a great trail system for mtn biking if you don't want anything truly technical or hilly. You can definitely find some good steep hills once you start exploring, but this more of a fitness ride than a skills/test yourself scenario. For a bit of fun and a great climb, head east to Raptor Ridge. The descent makes the climb worth it.

Lake Hodges is my go to place for trail running and mountain biking (beginner). Lots of options and you can find more challenging routes as you get better. This location is great because I don't feel too far from civilization when I park on the Rancho Bernardo Community Park side. Can return to my car or the park for a break, refuel, and go again.

I like the view and plenty of other trails to connect with. I won't ride here on the weekend as way too many families and hiker groups on the trails but weekdays are great for a quiet non technical ride for stretching the legs.

Pro: Hiked from Rancho Bernardo neighborhood to Old Glory (flag on top of a hill). Great 9 mile in/out hike with spectacular views, tons of wildflowers and great bird watching. I did this hike in late March 2016. Con: Always prefer a loop hike and this was an in/out hike. Poison oak got me :-(
