RunningGreat!

Elfin forest parking lot opens at 8am. If you park on the road and walk in before, the ranger can cite you for trespassing. We got called down off the trail at 7:50 when he saw us walking up and he gave us a warning. Beautiful and hot today- a couple almost killed their dog because of the heat - there is a heat map warning on the trail for dogs - it’s worth looking at, they had to slowly walk their dog down after it overheated after 20 minutes- be careful; our furry friends can’t take the heat like we can.

the view is good ,the public facility along the trail is the best , many pavilions and one tap water , hiking on a hot day those are really helpful.

We started our hike around 845am yesterday. Parking lot had just filled up. There was more shade on the way up than we were expecting for the hour (we'd arrived later than intended). A mostly slow, steady incline with some flat parts to get a breather. View of Lake Hodges was nice, but I think there are better hikes in that area. Definitely much hotter on the way down, no shade. Hike took about 3 hours, going at a slow pace. Watch recorded it as almost 7 miles. More people than was comfortable without masks on that hike, despite the very clear sign at the beginning of the hike indicating you must be wearing a mask if coming within 6 feet of others.

awesome workout hike! Beautiful views and wasn't too hot, at least for me, even starting out at 9:30. Did the full "way up" trail and then the botanical loop on way down, which has a nice creek running through it. Was fun!

This was a decent hike. Nothing too exciting and very crowded. A good work out on the way up but nothing overly strenuous. Not a lot of shady spots and can get very hot mid day. We started the hike around 10AM & took about 2 hours with lots of stops. Our dog went with us & trail is very dog friendly, but bring lots of water as it does get very hot.

What a great workout! I'd recommend going before 8AM because there is little overage from the sun. Beat the heat! It took me about 2.5 hrs to complete and while the parking lot opens at 8AM there are a few parking spots on the side of the road a few yards from the entrance. There are porta potties which is nice too. Lovely views and the creek is really pretty. Most of the incline takes place at the beginning of the hike. Overall, great workout, great hike.

I love this hike but hate waiting until 8 AM to go when the gates open for the parking. Now they put up no parking signs on the street! Where do everybody park when they go and do this early in the morning???

Gate opens at 8 am. I went on a Monday and there were only a few other hikers on the trail. I liked the steep hilly sections spread throughout the hike. I would like to go back and check out some of the other trail options.
