The first part of the trail is a lot of switchbacks and pretty steep but then it gets easier after you reach the first overlook area. The views at the lake Hodges overlook are stunning! This is a beautiful hike & it’s dog friendly so there were a lot of pups they just have to be leashed.

excellent trail that can go for 10+ miles if you take the side trails. great wildlife, and a fun hike. well suited for children, elderly or people recovering from injury. it does not seem, however, accessible for wheelchairs. pets are welcome, just bring your own poop bags, water and water bowl. excellent views of Lake Hodges.

starts with a steady semi steep incline, then flattens out with slight inclines the rest of the way. really nice views. saw ocean and snowcapped mountains by just rotating my head. would consider this more easy than moderate difficulty. (besides the first mile)

Good training/trail running trail with beautiful views of Olivenhein Reservoir. The weather was perfect during mid-to-late afternoon.

Go in the morning it's the best

It's a decent incline to the lake, but a beautiful view. Defiently recommend putting sun screen on and checking the weather before hiking, not a lot of shade. Get some good shoes, as it's pretty rocky on the path. Overall, if you're just walking with a bit of sight seeing, have 3-4 hours for this hike. Totally worth it, went during late October, but during spring time it's beautiful!

Great trail// There were plenty of places to rest in between the hike. It’s better to start early as the trail is partially shaded. Met amazing dogs!!! Views are outstanding, totally worth it!!!

Make sure you go to the left at the trail head in the parking lot. If you don't hit an immediate incline, you're on the wrong trail. There is water available at the 1.6 mile point.

peaceful and quiet ! the water is also pretty clean considering that ppl take their horses to the edge. lots of new vegetation too and families of birds ! :-)
