Hiking

I give this hike a 4 because of the remote and difficult access. I have hiked in from the parking area at Cherry Lake and I have driven to the trailhead which is closer. Still, it is a long drive from civilization. I even backpacked around the lake which took 3 days because of the rugged terrain without a trail. This is not advisable and I was fined for not having a wilderness permit. Once at Lake Eleanor, the walk in is worth it. It is quite pristine with pine covered islands. And the scenery is gorgeous.

There are a couple different trail heads to this lake. One longer and one shorter. Beautiful spot for a short easy backpack trip. Would be great for a first time trip. Or a trip where you want to test your gear before heading out on longer trips. Make sure to get a permit from the ranger station in Groveland and have bear canisters.
