Very beautiful trail. its a little steep but that's why its a great workout. I highly recommend it but keep in mind that there's almost no shade, so please take lots of water and wear a hat.

Whew super hot already this time of year so go early! Some pretty strenuous parts throughout, but full of beautiful views of the lake. Lots of toxic algae signs warning dogs not to drink or enter the water, so hopefully that clears up soon and people can go back to enjoying the lake.

Beautiful trail. The first 2 miles have lots of benches and shade for a nice easy hike (it is basically all up hill though), and after that there’s little to no shade or benches, which is fine by me, so defiantly pack lots of water (and sunscreen!) if you plan on going the full route. We (me and my dog) made it about 4-5 miles in when it got too hot for us and we had to turn around. The view was beautiful and we came face to face with some cows! The gravel trail was too rough for my puppy, but we still had tons of fun. 10/10 would recommend for anyone!

Fun and challenging bike ride. Lots of options as you make your way up and down the east shore. You can either stick to the fire road or have fun on the single tracks closer to the shore.

My husband and I were the only crazy folks on this trail. We saw more helicopters above us than hikers. If your looking for a good workout this is perfect but I wouldn’t recommend it for children or pets. It’s very open terrain with little bits of shade here and there. We each brought 3L of water with us and we had to cut our hike short and watch our water consumption by mile 11. I imagine if the weather wasn’t as hot we wouldn’t of drank as much. We saw lots of cows, deer and bones throughout the hike. So if you want to get a good workout bring a big brimmed hat and more than 3L of water and a good traction shoe.

I enjoyed this place. After hiking through a lot of redwood forests earlier in the weekend, the beautiful blue clouds and sweet cows grazing around the lake were quite pleasant. (It pains me to know the eventuality for these cows, being that they are owned by ranchers -- but i am glad they are free to roam and care for their young.) there is a decent amount of elevation by hiking through these rolling hills. you can run or hike quickly up these hills for a good workout, or go slower and not be challenged too much. i'll probably come back to this trail again.

Incredible trail with incredible views. Very well maintained, can run here even when it has recently rained and been wet. Try to time it where you reach peak altitude at sunrise, stunning.

I explored so much of this area back in May! In the end, I enjoyed the best views from a trail that was nestled a little before the park headquarters off the side of the road. I had an amazing time running up, down, and along the hills. Gorgeous views!

My friends and I have dubbed this hike "booty blasters" because of the workout your butt gets going up the hill! The view at the top is worth the climb, especially in the Spring. Brought the jogging stroller last time and took the side trail back down the hill. Bad idea! Too narrow!!

I recommend taking the trails to the left after you enter the cattle gate after crossing the river. They all lead to the top for views of Del Valle and are not as steep of a climb as the road to the top. They are also more scenic and offer shade during hot days.

Best time is in Winter or Spring when everything is green and not in summer when it's blazing hot and hills are brown. Was initially going to take East Shore trail to Hetch Hetchy, but trail was closed due to trail conditions. So we decided to take the Ridgeline Trail across from parking area and took a left to connect with Squirrel Gulch trail for a loop back down to parking lot. It's a little over 2 miles. Nice, short workout with a couple inclines to get to the ridgeline for a nice view of lake. Not crowded for a Sunday..mostly fishermen, families picnicking, and mountain bikers.
