Lake Chabot: West Shore, Bass Cove, Columbine, Honker Bay, East Shore Loop is a 9 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near San Leandro, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This is a beautiful hiking area with both paved and dirt trails that are moderately steep and nice views of the water. If you would like, you can avoid a large portion of the paved East Shore Trail by taking the southern Cameron Loop after crossing the Honker Bay bridge, Ten Hills Trail, and Indian Cove Trail leaving a very short paved section to the Marina. Dogs must be on leash in developed areas/under voice command in undeveloped areas of the park. Currently the parked has stopped charging for parking.
Park at the Lake Chabot Marina. There is a parking lot at the entrance that charges for parking, off street parking is available nearby. Maps and other information is available at the entrance. There is a marina by the lake with a small cafe that serves hot foods and drinks, BBQ facilities are also near the entrance.
Crowded. First and last 2 miles are paved and crowded with bikes and strollers. Not great
Rainy & beautiful. Super muddy and slippery so gotta be careful.
Awesome hike! It was raining and foggy, so we got some amazing views especially while walking through the forest trail.
It's even more amazing after it just rained. The forest seems to come alive when it's wet. Rain forest vibes.
The paved parts were overly populated, but I enjoyed the trail overall. It would definitely be rated easy if it were shorter
Awesome trail! A bit busy at the beginning and end but gorgeous in the middle :)
