This is a very awesome hike, I use it often as a default. Only criticism is the trail markers and maps aren't great. Easy/moderate/difficult whatever you want it to be. Multiple trail options depending on what your goals are. It can get crowded during peak hours, but its wide open and not a problem. Sneak off the main lake loop trail and hike up the volcanic plug, once you get to the top its great views. Head up the wash trail to the park, lots of shade and huge oak trees. Honest its worthwhile and wonderful if you have kids.

Great for hikers, mountain bikers, nature enthusiasts, children, and pets:) Plus they have some cool planetary info along the trails. Saturn is my favorite. Great exercise plus a good view along the way:) Check out my recent youtube video to help guide you along the multiple trails to the peak. Link below: https://youtu.be/lihy2XdHWJ8

Short version today around lake from the Oak Riparion Park in Oceanside. Nice, as others said, lots of dog and coyote poo, glad I wore hiking shoes, various surfaces, lots of inclines and declines. Lake was a bit smelly today, but overall nice walk.

so many trail options and great views but really watch out for the rattlesnakes. there are many posted signs but there's one area that is very densely populated so be vigilant!

This is a beautiful hike. It is dry but still there are wonderful wild flowers. Several of the smaller trails are closed, compared to this map, so I had to go on a longer route than I anticipated. Enjoy!

Took a short hike with my 4.5 year old daughter. Beautiful flowers, and she loved the climbs! Some parts were overgrown but we enjoyed it.

Great for hiking and dog walking. A lot of space and a lot more trails than what is listed. You can make more than 4.8 miles out of it if you want to. Enjoy!

Nice cool day which is great- - first time here not sure what to expect. Steep at the beginning and end of the trail entrance. Lovely walk, very quiet. Lots of wildlife.

If you are a super beginner at hiking this trail can be a tiny bit hard just remember to bring water and pace yourself!!! so we came around 4pm and there were no rattlesnakes in sight today. the main trail is a big loop around the lake but there are also a ton of little trails if you don't want to make the 4.8 loop. there is a pretty steep hill that you trek down to start and since I'm a chubby girl it kicked my butt going up it. I had a great experience and plan on going hiking here on a reg.

Moderate and fun. Areas of shade and clean.

Gets hot but there are shade spots. Really fun hike with some trail options. Loop around the lake is kid friendly and fun. Pretty overgrown but view were great and we had a blast. Can hear rattlers but didn’t see any.

some nice picturesque views. This Trail provides a roundabout but does not Summit the peak in the middle. Be aware if you are seeking the climb to the top vs a longer walk. However a very pleasant walk. Very doable but also be notified of some steep inclines on occasion. Also some wildlife.

good trail not too hard some places steep interesting fact is an extinct volcano here

I personally love this trail, and all of its turn-offs and different options. I highly recommend this trail for anyone and everyone! I run on this trail a lot and I find that there is a great mix of ups and downs, technical routes, easier buffed out double wide track, and GREAT climbs up to the peak. Having been out on this trail often, I definitely have seen a lot of rattle snakes, however; any given day I have not seen many at one time. For those who have, that is just unfortunate. With all the increased rainfall and sprouting wild flowers, there are A LOT more bees present, especially in overgrown areas, "bee" mindful. I love the several different options climbing up to the peak, all are relatively challenging, but all very doable. There are those who do tend to leave their dog's poop in bags on the side of the trail, which I never have really understood, other than that, pretty clean. It is a relatively heavily trafficked trail, so you must expect those things. Overall, this is a great and fun route to go for a run on, take the family out to, etc. Have fun!

Decent nothing I was crazy about. Very flat so great for strollers/younger children. Bad part: so many damn rattle snakes we had to leave 1/4 mi in

WARNING: aggressive bees on the ridge trail leading to the summit.

Some overgrowth but I stepped off at 630am and didn't see any snakes the entire way.
