To call this concrete walkway a trail or this walk a hike is a blow off the water lie.

This is NOT a trail, but a concrete walk build around a human made lake.

Often times, depending on time and day, it is over crowded. Not uncommon to run into groups of three or four people walking next to each other taking the whole path and blocking others. you have to ether ask them to move or go around them. Complete disregard for others. Not surprising, people often do that on the bike path around the park, why not here?

The best thing about this walk is to watch the ducks swans. But at the same time it can be upsetting. I have seen plenty of people feeding them even though there are signs that clearly state not to do it. It affects their migration habits and it is illegal. But people do it anyway. I suppose some people think signs and laws do not apply to them.

Perhaps my review is a bit more “negative” than others, but I crew up in the Valley and have frequented this park and many others and I have seen this park go from bad to worst. More and more people and people using it few good parks we have in the Valley in very selfish ways. At the same time I am not one to sugar coat things. Yes, it’s a pretty place with some beautiful animals, but it does have it’s downfalls.

Unless it’s raining, do not expect to spend some nice quite time. If you want some alone time and quite time, just you and nature, this is not the place for you.

Great for social walk. Great run for beginners. About 1.3 miles around the lake.

Ducks and swans in the lake. Bird melodies. Pedal boat rentals. Finding parking on the weekend can be difficult.

Most know you can easily turn this into a 5 mile urban hike. I actually loop the entire Sepulveda Basin, starting at the golf course heading west to Balboa, take the bike path north to Victory, then east to Woodley, and south on Woodley but go over into the Wilderness Preserve and come out on Burbank, cross Burbank and head west to the Dam, you'll see it. After hitting the Dam, head north, down along the LA'll come up under Burbank Bl. again, and out to the top. Head west on Burbank back to where you started...6 mile loop. Many people do this..but don't go across to the wilderness trail, to the dam, and call it a day at 5 miles. I do it all the 12k steps, in about 2 hours. Great little trek to keep your legs, lungs and heart hike ready.

wouldn't consider it hiking, but walking instead. the scenery near the lake but there are a lot of homeless encampments in the bushes and graffiti on the bridges.

Good spot just to take a walk after work. A lot of things to do; bike riding, fishing, play park for kids. Plenty of space for BBQ and activities.

it's a nice walk around the lake, mostly all concrete sidewalk, but you can walk on the grass. it's gets hot during the summer, but is nice this time of year. The paddle boating is fun but the water can have a funky smell, from being stagnant and recycled. There is also fishing from anywhere with grass.

Breaking in my new boots and beginning the slow process of prepping the family to go backpacking with the Boy Scouts.

Like another reviewer said, definitely more of a walk than a hike, but it’s outdoors & pretty.

Best to go first thing in the morning. This place gets crowded in the middle of the day but an easy trail.

Wonderful lake, good walk, beautiful birds

FYI: This is a park and it's for walking, not hiking, but it's beautiful.

Views: A lake, some ducks, swans, geese, dogs and kids.

Note: In Feb/March the Cherry Blossom trees are in bloom.

Parking: Usually isn't an issue but it's busier in the summer, on weekends and in the afternoon.

Warning: If you decide to park on the side of the road in the park, make sure that you PARALLEL park, otherwise, you may come back to a lovely parking ticket.

It's a walk, not a hike.

Easy access, lots of parking. Not too much shade but there's some. Good for when you need a quick, no-fuss workout.

Not really a hike, but great for a walk and/or jog!

Beautiful view

Good trail, Well traveled. This course is more of a walk than a hike, the trail is paved and on weekend you can reward yourself with a hot dog with bacon. There is bike rentals, kayaks, fishing, and snacks for purchase.

Little easy loop around a lake. Nothing amazing, lots of traffic here though.

One of my favorites, not only because it's conveniently located, but it also feels like you've left the city when you're on-site. It's hard to believe that the 405 is practically next door. This "trail" does get congested depending on the time of day/season, and because it has more of a "park" vibe to it, there are more kids and slow strollers enjoying the scenery than serious hikers/walkers looking for some exercise, so you'll have to do a bit of zig zagging around folks to keep a steady pace. That said, it's never stopped me from coming for long walks around the lake, enjoying the soothing site of the water while listening to a podcast after a long day at work.

This lake gets a fair amount of foot traffic but is relaxing to be by the water. The main photo shown for this lake is not in fact lake balboa. It is a nearby lake located st the Japanese Gardens in the Sepulveda dam basin area about a half mile east of lake balboa. The gardens lake walk is superb for relaxation and meditative meandering.

Beautiful lake area, a little crowded sometimes but there's lots of greenery, and you can rent bikes or paddle boats!

It's a nice park, plenty of paths to run on. My kids love it

Good scenery but too many people for my taste

Tuesday, March 22, 2016

A lot of ducks, geese, squirrels, and even a pair of swan. Nice easy hike, it was very peaceful.

This lake has some great perks: easy to walk, easy to get to, tons of parking, ducks in every part of the walk and super family friendly.

Overall I enjoyed the walk but there was limited shade, it was crowded (I went on a national holiday so most people had the day off), and it was a short walk.

I'm glad I got to enjoy a new place but I won't be coming back anytime soon.

Its a great trail for walking and running. There are a couple different paths around so you can always switch up

My mom used to take me here all the time when I was a kid. Very pretty. You can rent paddle boats for the lake in the summer. Nice picnic spot. I think there are some jungle gyms too. Very spacious. Not the cleanest, cuz there are birds and geese everywhere, but I still like it.
