Wildcat Gorge and Lake Anza Loop is a 1 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Berkeley, California that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. Loop trail that wraps around Lake Anza. An excellent spot for birdwatching, fishing, or going for a swim This trail sees a lot of use on the weekends, mostly by families and people walking their dogs. Some parts are a bit technical and there is no paved trail around the lake, but it offers a nice view of the lake and connects with the Selby Trail along with a few others. Weekdays are best here, especially during the summer months.
Bathrooms, a swimming area, and two main parking lots. The upper parking lot is closed during certain seasons for newt protection.
From University Ave. take MLK Drive to Marin. Continue across the circle and up the hill. Make a left on Grizzly Peak blvd. and a right on Sunset lane. This turns into Wildcat Canyon Road. Follow signs.
The last park wasn’t dog friendly so we only did 4 miles. Great hike tho
It was a rainy day so the footings were slippery. This is no paved family trail for a stroll around the lake. Found myself scrambling up and down rocks and avoiding roots from trees.
Oh Pretty easy, mostly wooded and nice walk. Just a very busy trail including kids and dogs
One part of the trail around the lake had a tricky part to pass as it was super close to the water and you had to hang onto a tree root
Would probably rate this medium instead of easy due to some rocky areas but overall a very nice trail close to Berkeley
Really nice trail. Not too hard and can be extended by making a loop around the Lake. A little crowded on weekends but still enjoyable.
Pretty damp quiet morning. Not too muddy and the very few people on the trail were abiding by social distancing protocol.
It’s not easy trail. Will say moderate. It’s rocky, muddy, slippery. View around the lake is good. May be hike is good for summer. We did in February
