Sunday morning hike. Not many people on the trail. 10/13/2019

Started at 1:30. Lots of people in the picnic area but only a few up top on the rim. 9/29/19.

Arrived at 9am on a Sunday and the parking lot was 80% full. Nice weekend hike in the morning. 9/22/19

Great trail for getting into shape for backpacking. Best done in the early morning. Plenty of trail off-shoot trails if you want to make a shorter loop than the almost 5 miles.

So much exposure on hot days! It’s 104 today and uggggg

$7 for parking! ridiculous

Believe this is a full 5 miles. Great hike. Clockwise has some very steep long hills.

Fire road around the outside rim of the reservoir. Good for power climbing short steep inclines. Start early in summer and can be slippery on steep inclines/declines in winter. Parking is available for free at some side streets or walk from downtown...

Great hike especially for early morning. Well marked and well traveled trail/fire road. A couple a good inclines to get the heart going. NO shade so best to do when not hot out.

They’re doing trial maintenance along the rim trail so you have to take a detour. Also you have to pay for parking which is absolute cheese

Went CCW mid-day on Sunday. It was very hot with minimal shade coverage. Trail was a fat-burner for sure with very steep inclines and descents -- need good grip shoes to prevent slipping and sliding. Light traffic and few dogs along the way with benches overlooking the reservoir to stop.

This is a family favorite for a weekend walk. It's challenging enough that you're going to sweat, but not so hard that it lands you with unhappy kids. We start at the parking lot, head towards the paddle boats, and finish the loop at the playground. The kids always manage to find their second wind once the play structures are within sight. The trail is paved with a decent amount of shade to give you some cover on the hot days. It can get busy. There's potable water along the trail but I'm not sure I'd trust it -- we usually bring liter each.

hiked this loop today (6/23/19) and the full loop is open. little shade, mostly in the sun so avoid really hot days

Lots of great hill climbs for training, clear trail the whole way with some nice views of the reservoir and Mt Diablo

Full trail is open now. Very steep grades. I recommend starting at the West trail head (next to entrance) and run/hike CCW, as the uphill grades are more gradual this direction. You’ll probably come across turkeys:)

Really amazing views of the surrounding area and gives a decent workout along the way. Some hills are pretty steep. Start to the left of the reservoir.

Partially closed. Rim trial is closed. took detour thro Rheem trial & Canyon Trial. quite good evening walk.

No mud, which is nice. Not the most exciting trail visually, doesn't exactly feel like you're "out in nature" due to the visible roadways and houses. Mainly useful for a good workout/training. Lots of exposure. Great if you want to hike with your dog.

very steep uphills. it's a great workout! part of the trail is going to be closed while work is being done near a big building which I imagine is a treatment facility. it was at 2.09 miles in (I entered the trail by the kids playground structure). I was told by the project manager there that it would be closed for a few months.

If you go clockwise starting at the parking lot, this trail is almost all uphill for the first half, and very steep. Definitely not a moderate if you’re running it. But trails are well kept and this hike has a good amount of views of the reservoir. Easy to follow the path.

Beautiful views, recommend at least 2 bottles of water per person. Nice breeze and dog friendly. I recommend hiking poles for anyone with bad knees or ankles.

Fairly easy hike

I love it but there a mare a lot of mean bees and wasps...

Little muddy and some was closed, but well maintained. Great views of Diablo and the Reservoir. Be prepared for some steep inclines and ups and downs. Would hike again.
