Not sure I would consider this a moderate trail. Steep incline most the way up, loose sandy dirt most of the way which makes it slippery both going up and coming down. A few narrow spots with drop-offs. Good for a workout that’s for sure. Would not recommend for children.

"Moderate" must have a different definition in the US vs the UK.... this is hard! But so worth it.... great workout and stunning views

If you are a casual hiker, looking for a shaded trail to enjoy - this is not the hike for you. It is not an especially difficult hike and the views are enjoyable, but the path back down can be a bit tricky at certain points. I was glad to have my trekking poles for the return hike, but they were by no means required - just a nice thing to have.

Hiked at approximately 10:00 hrs - The hike is a steady ascent until the trail leads you along the south side of the mountain. From there it can get a little steep. Nothing too dangerous here, just watch your step.

Once you get to the peak, there are some magnificent views waiting. If you're into geology, the peak is made extrusive igneous (basalt) rock from the mid-Miocene Conejo volcanics. Crazy to think that you're looking at rocks that are estimated to be 14 million years old and probably started as submarine lava flows. The ancient Conejo Volcano is near the Pleasant Valley community in Camarillo. The rocks near the peak can retain a lot of heat, so in the middle of the day it can get very hot - so a morning or evening hike would be best.

As far as the trek back down, just watch your step! The grade can be steep at points and its easy to slip, but it's nothing too difficult.
