This trail definitely gets the heart rate up, and should be considered on the hard side of moderate. It is a fire road hike so nothing technical but the elevation gain and steepness can certainly pack a punch so be prepared!

Great if you are looking for a moderate challenge. Paths are mostly wide and generous. Parking is easy. Beware of snakes!

As many people said, the left fork is steep. But I enjoyed it as a good workout. Nothing to worry with good hiking shoes. Saw a snake on top, and a rabbit and lots of lizards.

3.5 stars. I would recommend just doing the right side of the trail when you get to the forks and coming back down the same way. The steep inclines on the left of the forks are crumbly making it hard to gain traction.

My recommendation would be not to bother with the loop. Take the right side as you go up instead of the steep, eroded left side and just come down the same way. Lovely views at the top in all directions.

Wasn't a fan, didn't mind the steep inclines but the loose gravel made it harder to gain traction. This trail is more suited for bikes

Another thing! Do NOT park on the dirt roads on the side. Or next to the freeway. Only park in the parking lot. A cop made us move our car and would’ve towed us.

Do the steep/hard part first. After the steep part, you still will have about another 1 to 1.5 miles of non-stop uphill climbing. Once you get to the top (Verdugo Peak), descending is easy and enjoyable.

If you want the best workout from this hike take the steep incline going left on the trail all the way up till you begin to see the flag. You'll definitely need good comfortable shoes. Would not recommend doing this hike on a warm day.

Crazy steep at the beginning (you've been warned) but if you can survive it the rest of the trail is great.

The main path is nice. If you want to get the loop it is very steep. Probably best to do all of the steep parts first. A bit of a pain coming down.

HikingGreat!

this beautiful and challenging beast. It kicked our butts and we loved every minute of it. Street parking, fills up fast even on a weekday. A lot of people come here, I mean, A LOT...people are respecting the mask, social distance rule... great for people ages 12+, not good for strollers. Good for pups...lots of challenging hills on this hike, we did it clockwise to get all the climbs out of the way, many rest areas and good views all around.
